1/9 twist .223..?

mine will stabalise 75 s but shoots the 70 g vld bergers like a lazer all the way out to 700 yrds
My 9 twist .223 shoots 75 AMAX very accurately and consistently. The 77 SMK is shorter than the AMAX, so it should work, too.

Itll shoot 90’s if you rethroat it. The way they come theyre suitable for 52gr seated at ar mag length. I have a 223rem throating reamer just for this purpose
Right on the packaging Sierra notes 7" & 8" Twist barrels only. That is not to say accuracy will suffer greatly, merely that Sierra suggest a faster twist than 1:9 for that bullet. For the 69 grain HPBT Match they suggest 1:7 to 1:10 twist rates. My best advice would be to try them. Right now Cabela's is having a good sale on the Savage® Arms 12 FV Bolt-Action Varmint Rifles.

I bought a 12 FV .223 last year. Out of the box it shot really good with Sierra 69 TMK and Berger 70 VLD. I had it punched out to 22-243ai and It shoots 75 Amax really well now. I never tried the Amax before it was re-chambered.
Ya that one on sale at Cabela's $269 is the one I was thinking of buying , I think it not going to happen now.... I just can't justify another rifle or pistol right now... I have a Dakota 223 with factory Douglas 1-10 twist. I won a 600 yard match on the 300 yard target at 600 yards. I was shooting 80 grain Sierra. Our elevation is 5300 ft. Thin air helps. Score was 100 8X that tied range record. You never know till you try! Tom
If your range is located on Pikes Peak (14,115 ft) you can shoot just about anything you can stuff into the case and still fit the chamber. Otherwise, the Berger Twist Rate Calculator http://www.bergerbullets.com/twist-rate-calculator/

It's the length of the bullet more than the weight that determines stability for a given twist at a given air density. Your 9 twist 12FV should shoot the 69 gr TMK at 750 yds very well. The 53 grain V-Max will shoot impressively all the way to 500 yds. The actual twist rate of your barrel, the altitude and temperature of the range, bore smoothness, neck run out, all combine to help or hinder your efforts.

The 73 grain Berger does real well in a 9 "
Lower velocity out of a shorter barrel and twist tolerance.
