1:10 twist, 600Y load/projectile suggestions please

Hi
I have been invited to my first 600Y comp next month.

The only rifle that I have avail for the comp is a 1:10 twist, no turn neck,.272) 6mmBR.

Can someone please suggest a projectile and load ideas for this comp
I know I wont be at the sharp end of the field but I dont want to discrace myself either.
I't an 8 hour drive to the comp so it's no point going if I'm going to be useless.

What can you guys suggest I load with etc

Barrel is 21.3/4 inch long.

I have R10-X, Benchmark, H4895 and Varget in the cupboard.
I can get most common projectiles except Bergers quite easily.

Thanks heaps for your help

here is a stab at it! Berger lists a twist rate of 9 to stabilize the 95 vld bullets, Sierra shows a 70 grain smk, so somewhere between a 70 and 90 grain bullet might stabilize, check on hornady for the a-maxes, your barrel is pretty short. powders in the br mainly that I see are varget and RE 15, lighter bullets may like something else. You need to experiment, look at your reloading manuals, and ask some local shooters for advise as well, they may be able to help as they are where you shoot. Good luck, Ron Tilley

Were I you I would try 87 gr V-max and Benchmark
starting at 28 gr. I have never tried this load but given the same circumstances, that is what I would do. I checked with Hornady just a couple days ago and the V-max bullets have the same accuracy requirements as the A-maxes.

87 grain projectiles perform well in 1:10 twist barrels just a matter of getting the load right have no experience with the 6BR as yet so realy can`t suggest a load.

Try 90 grain Lapua bullets. They will work with the 1/10" twist as long as you are pushing them around 3000 fps.

The 10 twist should shoot the 95VLD Berger's fine. The 90BT Berger's shoot very well in a 10.

Gday Ogre. Is this comp at Little River? What date is it on? If I'm free I might come to watch.
Cheers mate,

it's the Canberra Pro cal fly shoot on September the 21st.
I'm still trying to get there but load development was horrid yesterday.
I was at little river when the rain came through and it turned into a crap day for shooting.

I dropped my testing back to 100Y from 300 and it really did't make much difference in the data I got- all loads were blown all over the place.
Strangely enough the 55 NBT fireform loads grouped the best at the short distance- I got 3 into .35 and then the next 2 in a complete wind change blew the group out the 1.15

The rest of the groups wee all over the place the conditions were hopeless for load testing.
I concentrated on fireforming the new brass to my chamber by firing at the 400 yard 8 inch plate.
I think i have found my varmint load as the 70 TNT's worked well out at that range on the plate.

No I can't make that shoot.

What twist is your barrel? Shane is still smithing my 6br but it will have an 8 twist. A good varmint load like a 75 or 87 grain Vmax will be great for the bunnies. I hope to get it in October. This month is a write off for me anyway, I'm so busy.
