6mm br 1-10 twist advice

I am new to the 6mm br, but have done a lot of research, too much maybe.
I think I have Analysis paralysis !
I was going to buy savage br model, then decided to buy a nicer used set up but have not found exactly what I think I want.
I will shoot 100-300 and 600 yards, no competition for now, but for benchrest shooting.
I found a nice rifle as far as stock, action and trigger.
It has a 26" benchmark 1-10 twist. I know about the 1-8 with heavier bullets and 1-12 and 14.
Should this barrel maker and twist rate worry me for what i want to do,or am I over thinking again.
Any advice would be great!

3855kid,
3855?...must be a farm kid, I have a 3855 John Deere wheel tractor,...Oh 6br talk ;D I have a 18.5" hart on a 1375 Witchita chambered in 6brx, a 6br with the shoulder blown .100 forward, that I shoot 68 grain bergers in one small ragged hole, 87 grain v-max, 87 grain VLD'd, or 90 grain Lapua's
100 grain SMK's or GMK's are all ground hog accurate way out past 600 yards.
I only papered the 68's at 100 all the rest I just shot at G/H's from 400-700 yards with very good success, I know it is not a straight 6br but a improved version and it should give you some idea, hope it helps some.

When I had a ten twist Shillen it would shoot Berger 90 gr. BT's well under .500 at 200 meters. Most groups were in the .3's with a moderate load of Varget.

3855,

I just got a Cooper 1:10 and I'm extremely happy with it. It is scary accurate with everything from 70 Sierra Match HP to Berger 95 VLD's and everything inbetween. You're not gonna make a mistake if you choose the same twist. Go for it! :)

my 6br is a krieger 10 twist and performance is incredible with the berger 88. Shoots the 80's real well as well as the 90s. Couldnt be happier.

Thanks for the advice. It seems like the few that commented have had success with this twist rate. The 88-90 grain bullets must about the limit for the twist.
I am just worried after investing in this I will be told I should have went with a faster twist, to get out to 600 yds. The barrel is a 24" also.

Thanks

38-55 Win? The 10 twist in 6mm barrels was the 243 win standard barrel so it would shoot the 100gr bullets for deer hunting, 244 Rem went with the 12 twist and was limited to lighter (shorter) bullets and that is why you now have the 6mm Rem with a faster twist. a 6mm Br may shoot some 100gr bullets, stabibility is also is affected by velocity, air density, temp, and all barrels marked by a twist rate are not exactly the same. I have a 223 rem with a 12 twist that will shoot Barnes 50 gr Varmint Grenade bullets fairly good when their box says 10 twist, I'm loading to a max velocity and I'm shooting at 2200 ft altitude and above. I hope this gives you more insight into the twist rate thing.

wapiti25,
I should have thought of that,...38-55 win :D
3855 You won't have any problems going to 600 with the 1:10 24" as I said I am only running a 18.5" but with another 100 fps over what you will get because of the added boiler room of the improved brx. I shoot 100 grain SGK bullets very accurately and if your rifle is capable of accuracy I am sure it will shoot them also.
Wayne.

It is the 38-55win. ;). I have 3 Ballards, 2 marlin levers and a Stevens single shot on that cartridge.
I have a rem 700P in .308 and several .223 rifles also.
I have never been serious about loading for the .308, but it is a shooter.
The 6 br looks like a blast, but there is so much to learn.
You can see my issues here, I am used to slugging a bore, casting, lubing and sizing my bullets.
I even breech seat for accuracy.

Thanks for the advice, this sure is a great site with a wealth of knowledge.

Wapiti25,
Thanks for the info!
I am shooting at 6700' elevation, with a constant breeze.
I am in Colorado and there is not much air or humidity either.
I was wondering about the wind and these lighter bullets.

Try some Bib 95 grain flatbase, you might be surprised how well they work. And BTW, a 10 twist is what is recommended on the website as "ideal".

I shoot a Winchester high wall of the new Mfg. Limited Edition. I have not got into working up a good load as I'm using cast 245gr that I bought in a bag. I've used imr4227, 2400, imr4895. I would like to try black powder with quality cast bullets as I have friends that shoot the BPCR out to 1000yds, I've watched them shoot MOA @ 600 using the tang sights. Two are headed to Montana for a match soon. A friend of mine is making re-production rifles of the Daniel Fraser rifle check out sidelever.com.
I like to run the numbers of bullets on the Bergers balistic program as it's one that you can adjust for the altitude.

I have a 29" 1:10 Krieger 6BR that loves Randy's 95 BIB FB bullet. Place your order and plant a tree. They take a while to get but worth the wait. Mine with also shoot the 95 Berger VLDs, but not as good as the 95 BIB.

Luck in your choice, Tim

Thanks Tim,

I went with the 1-10. I hope it was a good decision.
It is a nice looking rifle with features I like.
The owner said it shot 105's well.

I will order what you suggested also.
What is the best place to order from?

Cheers
