1:10 twist --target projectile options please

A mate wants me to come and try F-class

My varmint gun is a 1:10 6 BR no turn neck that groups in the .4's with 65 V-max and RL-10X

It's the easiest rifle for me to get to the line as it already has a 20 MOA rail and a decent scope on it.

The range is setup for F-class from 300 to 800 yards

Can you please suggest me some projectiles/loads to try in the 1:10 twist that will be able to make the 800 yard line??

Powders I have on hand are 10X, Benchmark, H4895 and Varget.
I also have Reloader 7 but I'm thinking its a bit fast- yes or no?

I have a 100 yard range close by to do some testing at- what amount of vertical in a 100 yard group makes that load impractical to use at the longer ranges

If a load groups 1 inch at 100 does that translate to 2 at 200 3 at 300 etc-- I'm very new to LR target shooting so Please educate me on how 100 yard groups translate out further.

For a 100 yard group is there a particular shape to the group that is better for long range shooting?

Thank you in advance for you suggestions

There are voices on the internet who say I should be shot, poisoned, stabbed, and beheaded for saying this, but some guys have been able to shoot the 95gr Berger VLD successfully from a 10-twist. Depends on your velocity, the barrel, altitude, temperature, many things. Also, it might be stable at 200 and not 800 yards. Berger does recommend a 9-twist, FYI.

The 87gr Hornady V-max should stabilize just fine but I've never been impressed with that bullet.

If I were you, I'd look at the Lapua Scenar 90-grainer,if you have a true 1:10" or faster barrel), or the following Bergers:

6mm 80 gr Match 0.243 80gr 0.324 bc 12tw

6mm 88 gr High BC FB 0.243 88gr 0.388 bc 10tw

6mm 90 gr Match BT 0.243 90gr 0.398 bc 10tw

The 88 is fairly finicky--some guys like 'em, some can't get 'em to shoot. The Berger 80-grainer is a phenomenally accurate bullet if you can live with the low BC.

My barrel is a factory .243 barrel that has been re-chambered to no turn 6 BR
Factory specs say .243's are 1:10

I don't know how close Tikka stick to their stated twists- whether a 1:10 is actually a 1:9.7 or a 1:10.3- How much variation is there in factory barrel twists from the way they are made?
it is what it is and I have to work with it.

Somebody suggested that I use my current 65 V-max load upto 500 yards and see what will work for the longer ranges

but that seems to me to be more of a hassle- having 2 loads to juggle and 2 sight-ins to deal with
is it??

my listings show the
Speer 85 SPBT with a BC of .404
the Lapua 90 HPBT with a BC of .420
the Berger 95 VLD of a .524

If the 95's will work in my barrel it seems prudent to use them for the much better BC on offer

Failing that, what accuracy have people gotten with the Lapua 77 and 90 grain projectiles?

Reason I ask about the 77 Grain is there is only .004 diff in listed BC between the 77 and the 80 Berger match.
I have several hundred of the 77's on the shelf.

Thanks

I've just built up a 6mmBr on a Tikka T3 with a 1:10 Bartlein barrel

I've just started working up loads with 70 -90g weight projectiles, and have tried some of the NZ made Targex projectiles.

Bryn Blyth in Whangarae makes these and they are shooting very well in my rifle. His 90 and 95 rebated boat tail has a BC around 0.45

I'm not sure what the process is for shipping to ausi, but you may want to send him an email at bdblythen@world-net.co.nz

Cheers

I have a 29" Krieger 1:10 twist 6BR on a Savage Target Action. I emailed Walt Berger about if it would shoot the 95 VLDs and he said I would just have to try them and that they worked for some and didn't for others. My local vendor and Midway are out of the 90 Bergers so I made up a few test rounds with the 95 VLDs on top of a lot Varget. My first 5 rounds down the barrel were 0.5 at 100 yds and 3 bullets had different seating depths. I was finding the lands with a sharpie and darkening the bullet. The next 5 were seat 0.010" into the lands and they went 0.42". I was probably a little hot on the powder based on bolt lift. I don't know what they will do at 300 yds yet but mighty nice at 100 yds. I will further explore them as time allows. I have a 1:8 twist 30" Shilen on order that was brought to shoot the 95VLDs and 107SMK.
