0 moa or 20 moa pic rail on a defiance action?

Evening all,

I am very close to ordering a defiance ruckus tactical action and I think I know what I want. I just need to hear some other opinions before dropping the dough and starting the wait. I’m planning a prs style build Mpa ba comp chassis, bartlein barrel in 6gt, trigger tech diamond, you get the idea. I have a plan but this is where I get lost.

1) should I order the action with the 20moa rail or stick with the flat rail and get a canted scope base?

2) it says on the website they offer aw mag cuts, can I run aics mags with an aw mag cut action? I know it won’t work the other way around just not sure.

Did I mention this is my first bolt gun? Been a gas gun guy for years but some of this bolt gun stuff might as well be Greek.

Thanks in advance
Brandon

I’m using 20 MOA rails on all my bolt actions and anywhere from 0 to 20 MOA in the mounts. This hasn’t caused any issues so far. I feel like the 20 MOA in the rail is never a problem and sometimes provides some flexibility to get more total elevation with a good selection of mounts available. By having 20 MOA in all the rails, it also makes things simpler to keep up with.

I would do the 20MOA rail, seems to be the standard now!
I would call Norm at Defiance about the mag cuts just to be for sure. BUGHOLES.COM Defiance actions list a lot of magwell cuts on their descriptions for a reference. I know that the cut on the Tenacity action will work for the AICS mags.

Depends on how far you plan to shoot.
Usual reccomendation is under 500 yards, Zero MOA.
500-1,000, 20 MOA.

Beyond that, custom.

1) Yes get a 20 MOA rail. No reason not to as that is a long range rifle set up and you will be shooting at longer ranges. What scope you using?

2) Why? Stick with AICS set up. They run fine and lots of mag options.

All good info thanks. I did call defiance to ask about the mag cut and got a very mushy “aaahh yyeaahh that should work” from the sales associate, not very confidence inspiring. I’ll give them a call back an ask for some one different I think. I don’t want to pigeon hole my self into one thing if I can get the aw cut and run the aics mags that I planed on with the option to run aw’s I think it would be a win. As far as glass goes I’m torn between a vortex gen ii and a NF atacr. It’s hard to get hands on anything (especially now days) to do a side by side, everything I’ve read about both has been sparkling so I’m sure I’ll be happy either way.
Thanks again

No reason to not use 20MOA, it's pretty std and if you want to sell it most will want it. Std mag cut to keep the option of using a std floor-plate/box mag and AICS mags. With AW cut you eliminate the use of a std floor plate and box mag. AW mags can be more finicky than AICS. I would think resale would be easier/better with the std mag cut.

I get the whole wanting to have it made for every mag but being your first rifle like this just listen and get it cut for AICS and use them and have fun. AW mags can be finicky as mentioned and the AICS run great.

Yep I agree I’m only interested if it’s not a complete pain in the ass. I think my original plan is the way to go.
