Modified Cases

I saw this jig setup. Thoughts?

I use modified cases as a measurement tool in all my rifle calibers. Hornady doesn't yet make a modified case for 7/6.5 PRCW so I made one from a 6.5 PRC modified case. I opened up the throat with a series of pin gauges.

Mike, it appears this is a new tool. Might be very useful if you need to make up quite a few modified cases for each rifle caliber you have on hand if the case in question is not available.

You'd have to make up a large amount of modified cases to make this one cost effective though.

I just had a new bbl chambered and my smith made me a chamber duplicate from shoulder forward using my same reamer. works like as charm for precise headspace measurements and for getting the exact distance to lands starting point. Just need to keep seating bullet until you can turn case with minimal friction and get just one scribe line on the bullet. Clean bullet with 3m pad after every try. this gives you the precise distance to lands on new bbl. can log it, save the bullet and then check for throat erosion over time with modified case. I not gonna chase lands anymore and use my tuner when needed.

I hear you. Hence the post to see what kind of feedback I get. My initial thought was costly too. I'm sure there are other setups out there.

For odd ball cases I would loosen up the neck a little on a sized case, add blue glue and insert polished bullet. Chamber it over night. On inspection with a 10x loupe I would measure the length of lands skid marks from the jamb and subtract from cbto measurement to get the measurement to lands.

Sounds like the Loc-Tite method I watched on UR the other day.

I just bought a tap, already had the drill bit. I make mine in my lathe.

This might be a helpful kit for someone without access to a lathe, depending on exactly what that 3rd piece in the kit is/does.
