Water jug action

My hunch, after shooting water jugs/bottles/cans with many different CF rifles over the years, was that they all pretty much acted the same. "You see one, you've seen 'em all, " I thought.

Then I shot a soda can filled with water with my 300WSM. Not only did it look like an explosion -- with no droplet of water appearing to be larger than a pinhead, it looked like water vapor -- it also left behind the perfectly round base of the can, right where I had set it on top of the cinderblock. It shot that can right out of its shoes!

Watched an old johnnie Rowland video wher he was shooting jugs with regular 45acp rounds and the switched magazines to some with 460Rowland rounds in them and shot the next jug with those.

Was a noticeable difference in how violently the last jugs ‘disassembled’.

Actually felt bad for the poor milk jug! :)

High velocity loves water-filled milk jugs. The jug shown was shot with my Kimber 9mm CDP (3"bbl) from 7 yards using the Civil Defense 90gr load at 2,000 fps. The shot resulted in me getting wet.

Don't have a pic, but I remember the results using my 220 Swift and a 50gr Nosler BT at 100 yards...graphic to say the least.

I appreciate all of your comments, and for watching my video. I love shooting stuff besides paper...its been a while but I am thinking its time for some tannerite this summer.

Yeah, you mean like this,17 hornet splashed ROFLMAO, through this coyote's neck, severed the vertebrae, and actually exited, your're looking at the exit. Too many splashes to keep using this round. Splashes well on groundhogs, more pics like these water bottles is silly most of the time. Hornady 25 grain V-max

Yup, graphic for sure.
I wasn't going to post this, but as you brought it up, here's a rockchuck shot with my Cooper 221FB from 215 yards with a Nosler 40gr Varmageddon with my POA being his nose while peeking over a rock next to his den. All I could see was his nose, eyes and ears; the nose seemed like a logical aiming point.

Like your pic, neither are PETA approved. ;)

Pretty much the way I start training new shooters to impress on them the importance of gun safety. Set up a quart can of tomato paste and shoot it. Once the resulting gory explosion has registered on them, turn to them and absolutely serious, say "And that's what can happen to a person's head - yours, mine, a friend - doesn't matter. Just one time of forgetting, inattention or just plain screwing off. There is no way of calling that bullet back. Once that trigger gets pulled it's done and you have to live with the result for the rest of your life."
Worked for all three of my kids, all eight of their kids, twelve nieces and nephews and probably a couple dozen or so others over the years. Oldest ones are in their 40's and early 50's now and just about all of them still bring that up and admit it still flashes across their minds when they pick up a gun.

Yes, I retire in 8 months. The nearest PD town to me is a long ways, about 8 hours. But I will get there and make some red mist.
Tom, congratulations on your upcoming retirement! Now after 18 years of it, I highly recommend it. You'll wonder how you ever found time to go to work. ;) As your pd fields are 8 hours away, I hope for your sake (and the rest of us) that fuel prices come back down to 'normal' again.

Only one caveat.....get as much reloading components laid in as possible, as you'll shoot more, be in the field more, and be having much more enjoyment out of life.

My wife doesn't care to shoot paper either. She likes reactive targets.
Water jugs of different sizes and steel plates. The swing and the sound of the bullet hitting the plate keeps her interested.

Another inexpensive reactive target I've found is old bowling pins.
You can get some from the local bowling alley, usually from 25¢ to $1 each.
And surprisingly tough!
They soak up rounds from my 7mm Rem Mag and my Weatherby magnums.

Hey Tom,

First congrats on your pending retirement and I too heartily recommend it having been happily retired now for 11 years. Before you know it, all those things you were putting off "till you have the time" will be awaiting your attention but don't let them sneak up on you...prepare in advance! And for those who say you'll miss being employed I say not a chance. Although you might miss the friendships and camaraderie, but this will soon be replaced by the pure joy of being your own boss. Every day will be a Saturday Tom, enjoy it...you have certainly earned it.

Water jugs not have guts, not bleed....
