Just saw this on the news,
"Illinois State Rep. Anne Stava (D) is pushing legislation to require all ammunition sold, given, or possessed in Illinois to be serialized.

The legislation is HB 4414 and it is scheduled to have a hearing in the Judiciary’s Criminal Committee on March 24, 2026.

The summary text of HB 4414 says: “[This bill] provides that beginning January 1, 2027, all handgun ammunition that is manufactured, imported into the State for sale or personal use, kept for sale, offered or exposed for sale, sold, given, lent, or possessed shall be serialized.”

Moreover, HB 4414 has a built-in registry requirement for all serialized ammunition, and that registry is be maintained by the Illinois State Police."
That's some scary stuff right there. I've been figuring for 30yrs when they couldn't get the guns that they would go after the ammo.... John

These dumbass bills come up all the time here. Won't pass.
They had a bill that would put a GPS on every car so they could
tax you by the mile....
Any dumbass in the house can write a bill, but most don't get any
notice. Just the really crazy ones.
These are the people that Chicago votes in.

The Boyz on the south side will just steal it from Indiana and bring it back.
It truly will be that the criminals will be the only ones with guns.
Thanks to the "law" makers.
I've been wanting to move, this would definitely make that happen.

Springfield Armory, Rockriver Arms and many more are in IL.
Surprised they didn't leave years ago.

Let’s start with the logistics of actually printing that “serial” number on just the .22LR cartridges consumed in that State. You would quickly run out of room on the cartridge casing even with micro-capable printers. Likewise, is there a provision requiring removal from the database once cartridge is expended. Does it require resubmission of an amendment for that specific cartridge casing with an “r” if it has been Handloaded into a new cartridge?
If so, will the “serial” number still even be visible given the wear from loading into a magazine, chambering, firing/extraction, and abrasion from striking gravel or ground? What about polishing those casings in a tumbler or pins to prep them for Handloading?
Once a cartridge is reassembled with a new serialized projectile, must you “self-report” to re-register that cartridge?
The sheer absurdity of the concept, and profound ignorance of those legislators is appalling.
Just more “do-nothing”, “feel-good”, self aggrandizing actions to give the illusion of competency of their “offices/appointments”.
The logistics/personnel alone required for such data management would likely match the annual budget of their State Police.
Utter nonsense!

It's been tried before. Likely has little to no chance of passing. But enough of the BS. We are moving out of Illinois. Just bought a house in Georgia. I was an Illinois State Trooper for 25 years and I pity the Firearms Services Bureau staff for their job ahead if this bill does pass. I predict a nightmare on non-compliance as well as no ammo shipped or sold in Illinois, which is the idea behind the bill anyway. Regulate into non-existence.

Hijab lady:
She mentions no “ethical” hunter would use or have the sort of guns targeted in the deer stand-
—-1) 2A is not about HUNTING
—-2) show me a law stating a hunter has to be an “ethical” hunter or must make “ethical” kills
—-3) i guess she never heard of going prairie dog hunting, squirrel, coyote, raccon, etc hunting.
Not all hunting is for deer or for the meat.
Some is merely a means of pest/varmint control or eradication as an alternative to using worse methods such as poisons which transfer on down the food chain all the way to inadvertently killing Eagles
