Too Much Resistance While Full Sizing

SAC Modular full sizing die. 223 Remington die, Lapua .223 brass, Imperial Case Lube. Making screeching noise and very heavy resistance. I'm concerned I could stick a case in the die. Brass fired 4X in a rifle reamed with a PTG reamer. Previously used a Redding full size die with no similar problem. I was careful to use enough lube.

Never had this problem before. I use this same die for 20 Practical brass (Lapua) with no problems.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Most of the stuff guys use works fine if you are not moving the body much. A squeaking sound indicates metal to metal contact. You are on the verge of galling brass onto your die.

Petroleum based oils have great film strength that a lot of other stuff doesn't have even thou it works most of the time. Film strength means a film is created that separates 2 metal surfaces when sliding against each other under contact pressure. I used to use a light vis synthetic oil from work. Retired now cannot get it any more. I bought this Hydraulic oil from Auto zone. $9 a qt. I wanted a light viscosity oil because it wipes off easily and something I could get at AutoZone. I worked as a lab tech in lubrication research for 18 years. This is the same as I posted several months ago, but I think it needed to be repeated. I roll them on a pad. I judge the proper amount of lube on the pad by running my fingers across it. I want my finger tips evenly wet with no buildup with depth. If I get too much on the pad I wipe it with a paper towel.

Just reread the original post. Does it screech from the mandrel or the die?

I'll have to try some of that
I have found Mink Oil does the same (the stuff for boots)
I like the Mink Oil Paste in a can because it feels like Imperial
the term is called Cohesive Properties
Cohesion refers to the intermolecular forces that hold the lubricant molecules together
Strong Cohesive properties enhance the lubricants film strength
---
In effect, can be squeezed into a smaller tighter space while still retaining it's lubricating properties
(stay in tact and not break down)

I do not believe your issue is due to the lube. "Imperial Case Lube" assuming you mean Imperial Sizing Wax, in my experience, is one of the best if not the best lubes on the market IF applied correctly. I have literally sized thousands of cases with it and never had a stuck case or difficulty sizing a case. You don't need to go into the weeds on the lube issue.

You said sizing was fine with Redding Die. Unless I am missing something, which is possible in my advanced age, the problem seems straight forward: "it's the die"! Use the Redding Die! Problem solved.

I had the same problem with a 6.5 Creedmoor SAC modular die. I ended up sending in a few fired cases, was told the rifle's chamber is out of spec. It's not out of SAMMI spec, but it's about as generous and still be in spec. I guess it's out of SAC spec. I still have the die, maybe my next 6.5 Creedmoor will be in spec.
