PAUSE IN RELOADING AND SHOOTING

Pat A.

Gold $$ Contributor
I just got back from another relaxing trip of camping and gold digging in Yuma Az. Great trip, got 19 Grams of gold this trip, However while moving some large rocks I came literally face to face with a rather large rattlesnake. Jumped back and well I didn't land so gracefully. Broke my wrist, better than a snakebite. I am glad it was still a little cold out so the snake wasn't very active or else he would of got me. I am usually pretty mindful of my surroundings while I am digging, I guess I just let my guard down. So now I will be a left handed Reloader & Shooter for a month of so.

3 weeks ago i walked up on this one sleeping. It woke up when i started walking backwards. I was 2 feet away from it when its tail caught my eye. It was 60 degrees out when this happened. He did not survive the head shot i gave him.

Heal fast. Not asking to give a way your secrets but are you metal detecting or panning/washing? Will be retiring end of the year and will be wintering in AZ and have been intrigued by picking up the hobby. Really looking at it from a hobby point and getting outdoors staying active and not full fledge gold mining.

19 grams of gold = fun!

Rattlesnake = no fun!

Broken wrist = sucks.

I’m in Arizona and spend a good portion of the non hunting season outdoors rocking hounding. No gold. Just jasper, agates and everything else we can find out there. We were out elk hunting and found a beautiful carnelian agate a couple years ago, didn’t know what it was at the time. That rock started a serious hobby for me and the wife. Get her out looking for rocks or arrowheads and she’ll spend the whole day out there. It’s a great way to stay in shape during the off-season, sometimes we will have 30 pounds of rocks in our packs in some pretty serious canyon county. The rock in the pic is what started it, added the G19 for scale.

Sounds like a great adventure, keep it up.

Here's to a speedy recovery!

I'm taking a hiatus from reloading and shooting also. Suffering from bouts of vertigo.

Unfortunately missing various hours from work. Being a machinist and suffering from vertigo isn't healthy for me or others.

Didnt the same thing happen to Indiana Jones?
Thats gold it cursed!!
The more you drag out, the larger the fee will be.
What happens next time you go back and drag out an OZ?
Hahahaha... a flash flood...hahaha...i say you broke even .
I have no words of inspiration.
I bet that trip would have been worth an old snake bite
Beautiful country, digging for gold, almost bit by a rattler..the only thing missing, was a shoot out with some bushwackers on a way to town for the doctor hahaha..

Thats an awesome story. Just great.
God bless, glad your on the mend.

Thank You!

Feeling pretty good today, so decided to load up some 9mm and 45ACP.
My daughter has been bugging me to load some 9mm for her as she shot all that she had at the range.
Had to tell her the #1 rule.
NEVER shoot up all your ammo at the range!!!

So far so good.
The first time I took my young daughter to the range, (after much safety talk, handling practices, etc., etc.,) I gave her the OK to start shooting one of my bolt guns at a 100-yard target. She was drawing from a large container of .17 HMR ammo I had opened and set on the bench. After some time watching her and seeing she had everything down really good, I turned to talk with someone - which turned into about a 20 or 25-minute discussion as I periodically glanced over to see she was still doing good. Upon turning around, I saw what looked like 100+ cases fired while I was yakking with the friend. I asked her why she shot so quickly. She had remembered a sentence in my instructions about wind shifts affecting bullet strike. Somehow, she interpreted that as the weather may be changing this afternoon - so get those rounds out while you can.... I couldn't help but chuckle to myself. Bad instructor.
