The Top Ten Most Pleasurable And Relaxing Steps In Reloading

Case gauging the last loaded round in a 50,000 round order, seeing it go into the barrel prepared for shipping.

I really enjoy when a charge is thrown a little heavy and I get to pluck single kernels of powder out of a pan with tweezers.

Been there and done that, and my wife just laughs when she sees me doing it.

Loading up 50 rounds of 6XC last night and shooting them over my Magnetospeed crony today in the cold and seeing an SD = 2 with an ES = 5. That makes me very very happy :-)

I love when I leave open that little twisty thing that drains out the powder from the RCBS auto powder unit and spills high dollar Vihtavouri powder all over the bench. It's usually about fifty reloads worth before I pick up on it. Yeah, that's the part of reloading I like.

They really ought to put a spring loaded door on that thing.

neck turning 100 22PPC cases. Woohooo, now that is so much fun I might give up Friday night with the boys for that!

Or, for the other side of accurate shooting, try loading 2 1/2 inch 410 shells. If all the powder goes in without hanging up, and all the bb's fall in without waiting till the case is 1/2 way to the next stage, and if the primer fell and got seated and no powder is in the MEC base, and if the wad seats without getting tangled up in the remains of the crimp, and then you get to try to get that D#@n crimp to close so the bbs don't tinkle down the barrel or into the guts of your model 42, and the case doesn't crinkle up like an overcooked green bean, well then Mister, NOW you are reloading! ;D ;D ;D

Good thread snakepit :)

As you know, I live watching that annealing machine do its thing. But that's not my "favorite" part of reloading...

My favorite is when I am using my self indexing turret press or have dies set up in multiple single stage presses to make a large amount of varmint rounds. The brass on my left and an open box of bullets on my right. The sizing wax is open and ready, I have a towel over my shoulder, primers are laid out in the tray and the powder measure is set just right. I turn on some Chris Ledoux music and start getting into a rhythm. It takes me a few cases to get into it, but when I hit that sweet spot in the rhythm using both hands to do separate operations (I'm fairly ambidextrous) and everything is flowing smoothly, my mind drifts off and it all becomes muscle memory. So I'm just loading cases and humming along to my music without a care in the world. Just get lost in it.....Until my wife opens the door and yells "DINNER TIME!" and I lose it all as I snap back to reality :)

I often batch load powder into fifty 6.5x47 cases at a time. Usually, one match requires 100 rounds, so I load two batches of 50. I trickle my powder to +/- 0.02 grains, starting with an old Belding & Mull measure that makes the carpal tunnel flair up badly. My measure is like trying to start a chainsaw with alcohol gas in it.

Often, I discover when picking up the case for bullet seating, that all the primers have mysteriously disappeared, and these little powder granules have leaked out of the case and are now down in in the loading block.

I get really nice and relaxed at that point, knowing I get to empty 50 cases, fix all the leaks, and practice using my chain saw measure and powder scale for another 2 freaking hours, or until the disk in my neck is completely herniated.

I love annealing brass with my patch700 annealomatic brass stress reliever 5000xd.

Then sometimes having to use a series of modified dies to get the results I'm looking for lol.

My favorite is step #11, kicking back with a Jack & Coke and listening to some great blues after step#1 thru #10 are done! 8) 8) 8)

Closing the lid on an ammo box filled with freshly loaded rounds and turning off the light in the shop.

Since I upgraded to a magnetic force restoration scale and an Omega trickler....pressing the button and dropping a single kernel into the powder pan and seeing instant recognition on the scale.
