Barrel stamp kit

Or you can just buy a set of stamps and stamp the barrel. I've been shooting rifles for 65 years and can't guess at how many I've owned or how many I've built in that time. Virtually every one of them has had the caliber stamped on the barrel.
In the last 40 years, BR aggregates have gotten smaller. There are many reasons for this, mostly related to the shooter's abilities. I feel safe in saying that one thing which has probably not played part, is that people quit stamping their barrels. Now, I would recommend against stamping the Lord's prayer on your barrel but "6 PPC 2026" isn't likely to have a serious effect on performance.
Having said this, there is kind of a knack to it, unless you use a jig. I will also confess, I like the look of etching. WH

I've got one of these:

And whatever stamps brownells has. I used it maybe 10 times and said "ok, time for that laser I've always wanted"

Curious, what laser did you choose, if I may ask?

I don't need or want anything to do 'artsy' projects with. Just interested in marking barrels.

Are there any fairly inexpensive lasers that do a good job? just for minimal info on barrels. I know nothing about them. I'm sure one of my boys could figure out the set up. I just do the old barrel stamp.

I got a fairly expensive mopa fiber laser from omtech. You can get a machine that would be more than adequate for marking barrels in the 1500-2000 dollar range.

Look on Ebay for a New Hermes diamond tip drag pantograph, I bought one there 10 plus years ago with three fonts and it was less than 300.00.

I played with the electro etch a little bit, made a setup and used a batter charger for the source. It worked pretty well.

I finally got a 60w Omtech Mopa fiber laser a little over a year ago, If you can swing it, that is the way to go. You could easily do barrel marks with a less expensive 30w, and find it when they have a sale for under 2k.

I was at Sam's and those Chinese 65 inch big screens are like $400.

I was really thinking those lasers were going to plummet in price. But they haven't.
