$800??? I think I’ll stick to my nearly free pusher. I’ve got what? 20 minutes of labor into making it?This is the kit that Drews came up with. He has a bunch of videos on it. Its pretty clever.

I wouldn't want it for free...really.$800??? I think I’ll stick to my nearly free pusher. I’ve got what? 20 minutes of labor into making it?
I’m not a fan of rigid reamer holders. I think too many variables have to be perfect. Then having to dial in the reamer with some rigid setups to make sure it’s right is a whole other extra issue. Yes there’s flex in the reamer and movement in the tailstock quill so there’s some “give” when rigid reaming off a tailstock. If using the tailstock I see no reason not to use a pusher though.
On a CNC, I’m liking the Soma floating holder I’m using on the tool post. Kennametal and others make something similar. The Soma is very well built and fully adjustable for the amount of allowable movement and independently adjustable for the amount of angular movement. I set mine up so it’s repeatedly within .001 on center and height. So all its correcting for is that minor amount. It also returns to center within .0005 so it doesn’t “drag” when power feeding in and out of the chamber.
I personally think guys are seeing chatter and other issues when CNC chambering because of their setup, speeds and feeds, pre-drill/pre-bore methods, etc.
Somma SS075ERFC20-1Got a part number for that soma?
I remember looking at that a few years back, all straight shank- no MT for a tailstock.Somma SS075ERFC20-1
Yeah. Would require some handy work to make it fit an MT tailstock.I remember looking at that a few years back, all straight shank- no MT for a tailstock.
Or maybe have a more reliable source make them. I won’t give PTG any business given their reputation for the past 10+ years. My three cents.
I got a PTG reamer holder. They are the best. They are similar in design to the somma, kennametal, etc floating holders. Moves in all 3 axis. I prebore and get the chamber started, and then the best part of the holder is you can tighten the collar that holds it all together while the reamer is in the chamber.
Boom. Hybrid floating semi-rigid holder. It really makes a big difference with those fidgety carbide reamers.
They are hard to get a hold of. We should do a group buy and maybe we'd get them before the next presidential election.
