PTG Lonestar Action

Whats the general feedback on being worth the purchase on this action. Seems like a good way to build a decent benchrest 22. Would it be any better than building off a CZ action? Of course, "you get what you pay for" comes to mind also.......

I had one and it had some extraction issues but after Gene Davis went through it and replaced the extractor and springs I never had another issue with it. Rifle shot extremely well, at the price they are now you have some room to play with them a little, It's basically a 40x, I think it's a step up from a CZ for a full build plus you can use a Remington 700 style trigger

If you are a lefty, I have a brand new complete pqp 2500x build nearing completion. I may let it go due to eye issues?

Spend the money wisely and get a 2500x.

PTG has a less than stellar reputation for customer service…..
I expected to hear this. And respect the opinion. My gut feeling is with a good barrel and trigger this would meet my "wants" for a while. It's my hopes it would be a step up from the factory CZ457 I'm shooting now. Thats the mystery/risk that prompted this post. Given my location, being a competitor is tough. Minimum 2 1/2 hours to play in some ARA matches. And I'm to dang old and broke down for the gymnastics involved in rimfire PRS or NRL22.
Thanks for the feedback back gentlemen.

I am in the process of barreling one up now for a friend, I was tempted to buy one but not any more. I anticipate extraction problems with how weak the extractor springs are, if someone has a fix I’d love to know about it.

this is his second action, I had him send back the first one, because of a timing issue. Not sure why but reciever face to bolt face dimension is drastically different on this second one. Also came with a different thickness recoil lug. Had to change the tenon length .090” I will report back when it’s complete.

Test fired the rifle today, it’s a repeater. Going to try it with a l3i magazine and see if that helps. It fed okay with vudoo polymer magazines but would shave lead off the bullet underneath the one it picks up out of the mag. Il deburr the bolt an see if that helps as well. Had to cut the extractor slots to almost a knife edge to the chamber and now it extracts reliably. Little clunky to run. Also I don’t believe you want to dry fire this action, firing pin seems to hit the breech face. There is around .004/.005 clearance from bolt nose to breech face for .043” headspace.
Barrel was a 1.25” CRB 16t

Accuracy is good with multiple sk ammo types.

Overall I think with some work and magazine modifications it can be decent. However for the money it’s tough to beat the barreled action b14r offering.

That's certainly a good route to take. Have to give it some thought
