Those who sort primers by weight...

To sort the weight of primers, might be the biggest waste of time in accurate reloading.
Hardly a waist of time for those interested in taking their program to the next level , takes me about fifteen minutes to sort a sleeve, as @ mulligan points out, he’s seen 25 fps variation which is considerable difference in point of bullet impact on a long range target.
I use the gram mode also.

I see 10 to 15 fps average change from switching primer brands in multiple calibers. Special situation and discipline that requires that level of ocd. The wind is likely a bigger influence than the primer distribution.

Purely opinion, I believe there are shooters out that can shoot the difference, but that is a rare exception.

I just did a study of 952 CCI 450 primers. I weighed in grains on an A&D FX120i scale. I was amazed at how "normally" distributed they were. Now the real question is - does it matter?

I see the same distributions when I sort. Everyone can determine for themselves if it matters.

I weight sort primers. I seat them by feel. I do not clean primer pockets or uniform them anymore. I sort bullets. I run no-turn necks. All determined by testing over long periods of time; not because someone told me I have to but because I proved it to myself A-B testing with season-long aggs.

Interesting, I could be talked into weighing primers if it makes as much a difference as a noturn vs a tight neck……. I’m betting at long range that vertical is the difference. how far?

I think that I will just look for gross outliers. I'm not sure that I can shoot well enough to see any benefit.

I do have plenty of time since retiring so this was not a big deal.

Next step is to try some of the lightest vs the heaviest and see if there's a difference on the chrono. Of course, the case capacities, bullets, and powder charges would have to be identical for the test results to be valid ;)

yep,
back when I was recovering from a surgery, I had time to sort a case of primers over a few days time.
When you sort a box of 5000, you get a feel for what the ragged edges actually look like.
