Weight sorting primers-Test

Primer manufacturers say it takes more labor to obtain the consistency in the BR series. More labor => more cost.
Something extra sure is used. If you look at the graph that was posted,
There is 3 columns that are close. Another sample from the Federal
Champions has much shorter columns with a much wider spread.
The BR2's with a sample of 300 has nine columns. The Federals with
only a sample of 50 would have 13 columns. With this particular lot of
Federal Champions, It could possibly drive someone nuts trying to tune,
let alone trying to run a tuner test if not sorted.

It costs money to pay for somebody to inspect them more frequently.

In this day and age, I'm guessing that most of the "inspection" is done by automated equipment - computer vision, etc. They might have a higher cull rate for the BR primers, but I'd be shocked if they're paying someone by the hour to manually inspect anything more than a cursory amount.

It is still both, but you are correct in that in 2023 there is more automation than there was in 1980.

Machine vision has come a long way without a doubt, but it still can't do everything. Some specs even call for x-ray inspection, but as a consumer it is very difficult to know what we do or do not get with our primers.

What I heard about BR primers vs non BR is, the BR are made by a guy who has more experience and therefore paid more, so they charge more. The expectation I suppose is that the more experienced better paid guy makes a more consistent product, whether this pans out or not, I guess you guys weighing the primers can tell.
So the reason they can't make it all consistent to the BR quality is due to the lack of enough experienced shifts to make it all BR quality only.
