Athlon Range Craft

I do not own or have never used the garmin, but i do own the rangecraft and have had zero issues with it. The youtubers that i have seen compare them side by side have had some fps differences. To me i wounder what one is correct. I have not seen anyone take the speeds, enter into a ballistic app and see what one is closer to center at a good distance. Like maybe 600 yards or further. Thats the test id like to see. I have not had time in the last year to go test distance. Mine has never missed a shot and works with ease. If i had to do it over again id still buy the rangecraft and save some money.

Instant speeds after the shot, easy to use for a non-techie guy, provides all the vital info needed to make decisions on loads, great pricing from Expert Voice if you are a vet or first responder. The Labradar has been collecting dust since last May.
Cheers

I am thinking about one .
Just about to start loading for a 17 Hornet and little changes make a big difference in that cartridge .
Don't have a smartphone any more , is that going to handicap the use at the range ?

I purchased the Garmin before the Athlon was available and have been very happy with it. Over the years I have had very good luck with Garmin products and customer service. I’m happy that I have the Garmin, but if I was having to make a purchase decision today, it might be tough to spend the extra money.

The Athlon will pickup shots from nearby benches a friend who has one. And with .22LR.

I have the Garmin and it has never picked up any shots that weren't mine.

How close together are you shooting and are you running both chronographs the same time?

No Expert.
I got the Athlon at first I got one high shot.
I did the latest up-date and found the location on the Bench is important.
Last two outings with hand loads SD of 1.8 and 3.7 on 5 rounds each.

If your Vet the Athlon price is way better............

I have a friend on here that did a Test at the same time. Athlon on one side Garmin on the other.
He stated " only small differences in them as to numbers".
Being a Fun lover " which one is correct " ??

I was about 6 feet away from my buddy and his Athlon Range Craft. Both of us were shooting our .223's.
His did not pick up any of my shots, but picked up everyone of his. Maybe we were to far apart. Last week I used another friends Garmin for 45 rounds down my 22-250. He was maybe 3 feet from the Garmin shooting a 22lr. The Garmin never picked up one of his shots. If I get one I'll probably settle for the Athlon.

I've been following the news and comparisons of the Rangecraft and Garmin. I currently use a Magnetospeed and it works OK for my minimal needs. It seems the consensus is that there is a difference of a small difference in the returns of the two. Everyone wants to know which one is most accurate. So, I am beginning to think that the internal components of these things are like other things, where the manufacturer picks a happy medium between affordable/profitable and not acceptable or perhaps some computer code used is different. My Magneto reads right at the muzzle and does not reflect weather, wind, bullet profile/BC. The doppler guys are getting results as the bullet proceeds downrange where these things can begin to have an effect. Since one is consistently lower in FPS than the other, it must be due to a component or computer code. If I pick a hypothetical velocity of 3000fps, a 6fps difference means 6/3000=0.002=0.000025% error. Forgive if I'm wrong, I made a C in statistics and I believe that grade was a gift from my professor.

It seems that consistency and the ability to true whatever ballistics program we are using to our rifle to get a SD and ES that accurately reflects our load and conditions is the end goal for us all. If either one or both models are consistent we can analyze our results for load data, true it to our program, and get the results we are searching for. After all, we are each shooting in our own "bubble". What works in yours might not work for me and vice versa.

I'm not commenting on each manufacturer's app's ease of use because I've never touched one.

Well let me just say the Athlon will be here Friday. I didn’t heard enuf +’s or -‘s to spend the extra bucks. Interesting fact I was going to order from midsouth
