New to me 6 BRA

Received my 6 BRA couple days ago. Smith work was done by James Eazor at Eazor Precision. It's a Kelbly Atlas Tactical, 26" BRUX HV 8 twist, Hellfire brake, MPA BA Hybrid chassy, and Trigger Tech Diamond set at 8 oz. Going to mount the S&B PMII 12-50x after the weekend since it's on my 223 right now and I'm going coyote hunting a few days. Got a dummy round with 108g ELDM loaded up and it sure is a sexy little round. Have about 15 pieces of virgin Lapua 6 BR that needs fireformed I'll start out with, then get to sizing the rest. I've got H4895, IMR4895, IMR8208XBR, N540, and H4350 for powders. Thinking about going with 32g H4350 with the 108s for fire forming. Does that sound about right? Then I'll probably concentrate on H4895, H4350, and N540 for load development.

Nice. By the way, is that a Zero Fox ball head on that Bog and how do you like it?

That is the Zero Fox ball head conversion foe the bog pod. I love it. Works great with this MPA chassy with the built in arca rail down the forearm...I still have the factory bog pod saddle outfitted with the arca rail on it also for all my other rifles. My only complaint is that saddle is freaking heavy and adds like 2#...

So I'm trying to find the lands with a 108g ELDM and I'm coming up with around 2.450"-2.460" This has .135" freebore. Does that sound about right? Took a virgin 6 BR lapua case, seated the bullet long, then chambered it and let the lands seat the bullet. Did this 3 times and it came out to 2.460" every time. So I seated it down to 2.450" to be what I thought was 10 off the lands and it still seems/feels like it's in the lands. Went down to 2.440" for what I thought was 20 off, and it still feels/seems like it's in the lands. Hoping someone has the .135" freebore and 108 ELDM combo to give me an idea if I'm close or not?

Google AI says the 6 BR with the .135" freebore typically has a COAL of 2.385"-2.415" to the lands...So I might still be a little long. I just don't want to be 30, 40, 50 in the lands. Probably not a good thing...Ideally I just want to start at 10 off and work down to 30 off.

I would FF with about 29 gr of 4895 with bullets about .010 in the lands. Make sure you have a nice crisp shoulder before continuing.

Sounds good! Will do that after I figure out where the lands are on this thing...

Looking like it might be around 2.380" or 2.375"

2.380" still sticks in the chamber when I push it in there and will not fall freely out with the gun vertical. At 2.370" when I pushed it all the way in the chamber, and then held the rifle vertical, the cartridge fell out of the chamber. So I think I'm getting close. Gonna go back to 2.380" try again, then go to 2.375", then 2.370" again and see what happens.

Was just using COAL as a more common reference. Fully aware that the ogive is the better/more accurate reading and I do seat according to ogive. Just wanted to find the general COAL point and once I did, I'd write down the corresponding ogive measurement on that going forward.

Looks like 2.375" is at the lands, or 1.810" to the ogive.

Ill fireform at 1.820" or 10 in the lands with 29g H4895

Then after fireforming is done, I'll back off to 1.8" ogive or 10 off the lands.

Thanks guys!

I’d read a few times, how well fireforming loads often shoot in the 6BRA. But was still surprised just how well they group in my recent builds. This was 30.0 grains Varget, BR4, and 105 Hybrid, seated 8 thou past touch, the first three-shots after sight-in at 100yds.

I was you a year ago and a Varget guy. My new BRA barrel shot like Buffalo Bills but at 2800fps. Not acceptable. I ended up with H4895 shooting 107s at about 2920 and shooting like BBs. Bit of a let down after shooting BRXs for 15 years or so at 2990 with Varget but the BRA works. Good luck.
