6 BRA powder?

I know those are the preferred and best powders, but like I said just trying to see if N540/H4350 will work, before I drop another $400+ on yet another keg of powder... The H4350 needs to be used inparticular. 15# sitting on the shelf doesn't do me any good for any other calibers I shoot or load for.

I have 1# of H4895 on the shelf. Has it been easier to get than the previous few years? Cause I know when I built my 223 2 years ago, H4895 was and had been like unicorn dust and non existent. That's why I went the N540 route for the 223 with the 75s...
Yea.. I feel your pain. I’ve got 10-12 powders I used at one time and now it just sits… may come in handy. For BRA you can use Varget or H4895 and not be experimenting at all… both are versatile for other cartridges also.. H4895 is all around nowadays….

The thing is, I only have 4 rifles I load and shoot. My 223 that uses N540 with 75 ELDMs at 3K, this 6 BRA that would probably do better with N540 over H4350, my 7-300 Win Mag with H1000 and 180 ELDMs, and a 45-70 that I use IMR4198 with 300/350g Hornadys. Pretty caliber specific powders as it is. I bought all that H4350 when I built my 6 Creed 2 years ago. Sold it to my dad to buy this BRA. I'll still load him the 108s/H4350 for it, but a box of 20 shells lasts him 2 years...

This thread reminds me of my last BRA build. I already had a zero freebore 12 twist BRA that shoots lights out with 8208 XBR and 70-80 grain bullets. Since I had over 15 pounds of 8208, I wanted it to work with my new 8 twist and 105 class bullets. After wasting 500 bullets, rebedding the rifle, and changing scopes I finally did a load work up with Varget and H4895. Both powders immediately produced the groups that I had been looking for, but Varget was a little easier to find at the time, so that’s what I’m now using in that gun now. Another lesson learned the hard way.

Had a buddy run an estimate off GRT and this is what he came up with for N540 and H4350 with 105 Bergers and 108 ELDMs. Max velocities should be aeound 2925-2950 at 63K PSI

N540 having 100% powder burn and H4350 having 98-99% powder burn.

N540 @ 32g 105 Berger and 108 ELDM
H4350@ 35g 105 Berger and 34.5g 108 ELDM

For the 6BRA in my old F-Open setup, RL15 was the gold ticket. The node was around 2940-2960fps with 105gr Bergers out of a 30" tube. The advantage of RL15 was that it produced more velocity and less pressure compared with H4895. Varget is a good option too.

H4895 @600
N140 @ 500
Varget @ 1000
IMR 4064 @ 500
All BRA with 103 gr or 108 but where it shoots best will vary between powder/ lot number and barrel. Guys have to test for them selves to decide which one shoots best. Speed doesn’t matter to me.
The target is king.

Varget or H4895 could pull double duty in your .223 just as you are wanting to do with N540.

Oh most definitely. Id just have 25# of N540/H4350 sitting around then lol. That's too much powder and money not to be used...If I could sell it I probably would. But it's way to hard to sell powder without being able to ship.

Varget or H4895 worked/work great in a 1/8 Kreiger (been set back once) from 30" to 29" with some miles on it.

VV N series 135/140/150 !

30.6 Gr H4895 in Lapua BR formed to BRAI has been the load this year once Varget ran out.
Both those powders are versatile.

Very nice! Accurate little suckers aren't they?!!
Yes they really are.
Tuning for the Nationals last August on a short time frame after moving, most of my powders were still packed but I felt pretty good about my combination after I shot these two 1000 Y ladders using Varget.
Each ladder had a different neck size bushing yet the node was clear enough to run a seating depth review.
Ya just never know until Ya find out. lol
