new heart valve

I got a new aortic heart valve on Tues and came home yesterday. They have come a long way and are getting better all the time. A borescope device went up one leg through my artery and the new valve went up my left leg through my other artery They come in four sizes depending on how large your femoral artery is. So you don't worry about getting a new aortic valve if you need one. They also last longer now. I waited 2 years for one, so I really needed one, I could not think straight sometimes due to a lack of O2, but they wanted to wait for as long as I good manage until it became severe. I never thought I would feel this good again. Thanks to the Man upstairs. I'm blessed it went so well. I definitely don't feel like I'm 78 anymore.

I got a TAVR a year ago. Pretty amazing that you stay overnight and walk out the next day with almost no restrictions. Beats the hell out of cracking your chest! What a great Christmas present for you!

Thanks for all the well wishes and advice about not doing anything for couple of weeks. as far as straining, it's very heart warming to hear from all of you. I did try to remove a patch from my groin over my femoral artery and it started leak, so I plugged it back up. I have one on each side and need to wait longer to remove them. Got the ones off of my neck where they had a wire into neck to my heart in case my heart stopped, but they did not need it and took the wire out the next day, But they keep testing it make sure it would work.

I know, medical science has come a long way... 25 years ago, my mother died on the table during an Aortic Valve replacement. But two years ago, I had a double bypass and valve replacement with no issues. My Widow Maker artery was 90 percent blocked, and I would no doubt be dead today without the operation. I'm glad everything worked out okay for you, and your right, it does make you feel younger.

I'm glad everything worked out good for you. But anything to do with the heart is still a crap shoot. I had a valve replacement and double bypass, and was fine. But a year ago, my sister died on the table getting a TAVR. So, I guess shit happens. What gets me is that the TAVR is supposed to be next to no risk compared to full on open heart surgery.

Just be careful... They released me to full activity after 3 months....but five months later a backpacking trip just royally kicked my ass.

Good luck to you with your second lifetime.

I am glad that you have had a successful procedure. I have a bad aortic valve and my mitral valve isn’t so great either. But my injection fraction at 40-45 is not bad enough yet, so they say, to do the procedure by an artery as you stated. Also my heart calcium is 1600 and according to their criteria, it would have to be above 2100 to be considered for a valve replacement. So I just have periodic echocardiograms and a cardiac cath. I get out of breath sometimes and have trouble standing up and walking. I just hope they can do the procedure sometime in the future before the condition kills me. In other words, it’s congestive heart failure.
