Remington bashing

The Remington company, the old "Big Green", sadly, no longer exists. The new company is simply using the name. It's a whole other company now.

Like lots of the great American companies. Just shells of the former industrial giants, gutted by money men that care nothing of legacy.

Heck man, Ford stopped making cars. Henry Ford is rolling over in his grave.

Last I heard, Vista bought em' out from the bankruptcy. i heard again
that Vista spun them off. I heard again that a Czech billionaire had his
fingers in the pie. I heard also that some firm named Round Hill has the
steering wheel.....Sounds like a shell game with a hot potato......
It was a complicated sell. Here is a link that helps sort through the history.

Guess that’s what happens when a firearms company is no no longer run by “ gun men “.

I've been a Remington fan all my life (well since 68). The last 2 (RARs) had issues. The 6.5 Creed wouldn't shoot worth a plug nickel. Action was great but the barrel sucked. Easy but pricey fix rebarelled.
2nd was a 7mm mag. No primary extraction had the bolt fixed, but it shot great right off the bat.
.Still a big fan though.

I compete with 700's, i hunt with 700's. 2 hours ago i shot a nice whitetail with one of my 700's.
Can't ask for more.

I have 2 REM 700 30-06 from 2014-15 period, they shoot great for hunting rifles, typically ~1/2 MOA at 200 yds for 3 shots with a 9X scope. One likes 150 grain Accubond, the other likes 180 grain Barnes TTSX, both at 2750 fps.

I see them advertised in my Black Friday searches this wk, believe they have a special Timney in them now, so that eliminates the trigger issue, haven't been into a store that had any to look at them. They want much the same money in the price points they chose to compete in for now. I've sold both the ones I had, they served me well for many years, never had any issues, both shot well. Would I run out and buy one? Probably not, I have a couple of Tikka's now, to me they seem to be a better value in the price point zones they compete in, Tikka trigger doesn't need replacing, just a spring and a quick adjustment. Remington will take a long while to climb out of the they got dug into, even though it's no fault of the current operators. They probably need to do a redesign of the line and model names to get out of it, hard to do when the 700 series set a standard like it did. They will most likely never again become what they were in terms of industry dominance.
I think that special Timney is a non adjustable lawyered 3 or 4 lb trigger.

As a die hard Big Green fan, my hope is that they can regain the trust that shooters once had in their guns. They have a real chance with this latest reincarnation. But things like addressing the lack of primary extraction that has plagued the 700's since the advent of CNC'ing under the last owners makes me shake my head. Early on, I handled 6-7 of the new RemArms 700's, including the Long Range model, and none had any mechanical camming. Bubba and Billy Bob with a box of ammo could care less. But the facts are it's a simple design issue that should be addressed. On the ones I handled, the fit and finish was very nice.

For the last 6 months at least, I haven't seen a new one at any of my local outlets. At this point in time, all manufacture's reps are darn near fist fighting to get floor space for their stuff. If a company can't get the production up enough to fill stores inventory, stores just aren't going to jack around trying to carry them.

It seems like I'm pulling harder for Big Green than they do for themselves.

Good shootin' :) -Al
Well I hope you win AL! ;) The four that I have left were built in the late seventies and early 80,s and are wonderful. They were a great company and I truly hope they can be again.

A significant part of the problem is the caliber of workers. Our nation is on a downward spiral thanks to several issues I won't mention. But it brings with it those who believe their paycheck is a participation trophy they only have to show up to deserve. Magically inject the workforce caliber of 100 years ago and just see if any other makers can keep up.

One positive note, Colt name, now owned by newish company. Don't know who who owns them, but Colt is doing some good things on a few products. I have read the Python is a very very good revolver. There could be a full year business course in how Remington went to hell over a 30-40 year period.
What US FA companies have done well over the last thirty years? Smith Wesson has done the best, not sure who owns them. Browning is still hanging in, but not sure who still owns them>>

CZ (Česká zbrojovka) bought Colt in 2021.

My 30-28 action i bought about 6 years ago its an RR, the other one is a RAR
Those were probably made by the old Remington then, not the current ones. I don't own any brand new Remington rifles, save a 6.5 Creedmoor ADL that I bought cheap for just the action. Its pretty good. I ended up keeping the factory barrel because it shot so good. I've handled a few of the new ones and they seem pretty nice. CDLs and BDLs at the local shop.

Browning is owned by FN and has been for a very long time. I believe all their guns have been made in Japan for a very long time.

On the Colts, I have one of their .44 Magnums. Its a nice revolver, but it suffers some of the same issues the Pythons have been noted for having: poorly regulated sights, excessive cylinder gap, and light-strikes in double action.

I hear Smith & Wesson is trying to right some of their wrongs, but they still use the Hillary Hole on most models and their ARs are of questionable quality. The M&P pistols, their SHIELD, and some of their new revolver offerings are giving me a glimmer of hope.

I was under the impression RAR actions were made under the " new" Remington.
