Remington VSSF barrel question

Bunt

Silver $$ Contributor
I bought a used Remington VSSF several years ago, rifle shot well but always questioned the appearance of the flutes. They are very rough, not like any fluted Remington I've ever seen. I switched the barrel out to a Calhoon19/223, thinking of selling it and will include the 223 barrel, just want to get opinions on the flutes before I put it out there.. Looking for thoughts and if anyone else has seen fluting like this before, thanks in advance for your input.

This is a fluted Hart barrel and is typically what I remember previously owned Remington fluted barrels looking like:

Having had my hands on multiple dozens of those exact VSSF barrels, I can tell you the VSSF barrels were not fluted in that manner from the factory. The flutes did narrow as they got close to the action...as those do.

I'd say it's an original VSSF barrel that's had the original flutes deepened and widened.

Good shootin' -Al

The factory fluting was done in this pattern in the past, this is the pattern done on another rifle as posted by on another forum.

I have 22-250 barrel with that same fluting pattern. I purchased it as a new take off, 2005-2009?, it doesn't foul copper has has been very accurate on 2 different actions/stocks. Best 35.00 I have spent on shooting.
