I feel so much better about using my ChargeMaster 1500 now…

I keep remembering the video of Erik Cortina shooting the 1 1/4 inch five shot group @ 1000 yds. with four of the shots being within 1/4 inch bug hole and the E S being 19 FPS. So, how much does the E S really matter ?
20 and under ES is not terrible and that small sample could be a worst case ES he had for his ammo.
At two miles it’s a 1.5 mils difference

A chargemaster is good for about +-.2gr . . . .so .4gr spread. Adam is talking about an A&D with an auto trickler throwing to one TENTH of that variation. +-.002 Ie the chargemaster has about 10x the error.

Depending on the calibre and powder choice, mid capacity cals might be 50fps /gr. So your .4gr variation equal 20fps spread. Is 20fps enough to take you off your node?

First off I would see how wide my node is and chronograph the speeds.

So the 120i has an overall accuracy of 0.002gn? That would be news the AnD.

No. Just the example given in the original post was regarding someone using an A&D loading and accepting charges that were thrown +-.002 and how that variation made relatively insignificant variation on target at 1000. A person accepting +-.002 is different to a chargemaster variation of up to +-.2

That has not been my experience with my chargemaster lite. Its +\- 0.1 at most. Its rare that it throws more than +\- 0.06. It could overthrow occasionally too, but it will be flashing and you need to throw another.

I see almost no difference tricking to +\- 0.01 on the creedmoor scale in a 223 case.

The discussion was around the chargemaster 1500. I have a 1500 and also have an A&D to compare it against. From my experience the actual variation of MY chargemaster 1500 is up to .2gr BUT generally .1 or under.

Does it matter. . . . Depends on how stable your node is and what type of accuracy game you like to participate in.

Always figured the lite was just a way to charge the same or more for an inferior product just like everything else that is "new and improved".

Ok you got my attention, If I ever try to shoot 2 miles I will use something other than my 30 year old untuned beam scale.

I use an elastic antistatic wrist band on the hopper and clipped to a grounded wire I stuck out from an outlet. These bands are commonly used as personal grounding equipment for people working on sensitive electronics and have alligator clips on the oposite end for ease of attachment. Eliminates static really well and a cheap solution.

Personally, I don't think see how that's going to do much; the plastic (usually polycarb, but may be plexiglass) hopper is a dielectric (insulator), which tends to not allow electrons to flow either through or across it. Putting a conductor around it will alleviate static buildup in that area that's contacted, but not elsewhere.

I'd advise wiping it down (or dusting it) with graphite and brushing off any excess. That will restore electron flow across the plastic's surface and eliminate static buildup. Graphite is commonly used as a surface treatment for smokeless powder, in case you're worried about contamination,

That is (the error) if you are only looking at the velocity variation all by itself. If you believe in positive compensation and tune the load to to take advantage of it the velocity variation affects can be reduced.

You can’t point to one thing and state “because of this, this will be your error”. Too many things are going on at the same time to point to one thing and state what error it will produce.

Works for me. Powder granules no longer cling to the inner surfaces of the measure like they did before using the strap. And yes, I also wipe down with dryer sheets. YMMV.
