6x45

I'm looking at rebarelling a well worn Winchester M70 HV from 223R to 6x45, just because its different.
I know theres lots of AR shooters with this, but has anyone played much with it in a bolt rifle? Is it easy or finicky to tune?

Didn't the short range benchrest crowd run something very similar back a couple of generations?
I believe they were running a 222 necked up????

There were a few kicking around NZ in the 80's - I guess that they still exist - and popular with younger hunters. True Flite barrels still offer the chambering. I believe that the 85g Sierra and Nosler BT's are the bullets of choice.

I suggest that it is more popular than you imagine, as Hodgdon's have load data on their website.

I've been shooting a 6x45 since around 1990.and a 6x47 Improved (6mm-204) since 2006. It is a really easy cartridge to work with. I'd stick with 75gr and under as there isn't a lot of room for powder. I use mine for called coyotes.

All manner of 6x47s were built for the BR game, when you look at the new ld article it seem everyone had their own version.

The 6mm on a small bolt-face was popular in OZ from the 6mm Myrna to the 6x50mm on the 5.6x50 Mag case.

Bolt face size was my reason for this 6x45. I already have a 5.56N and another 223R so I figured why not?

The 6x45 (6-223) is one of easiest wildcats. As soon as .223 was introduced to the market, benchrest shooters necked it up to 6mm. It is an accurate round and easy to load. It was put to rest with the introduction of the 6PPC.

You can go straight 6x45 or if you want a little bit more velocity then the 6TCU. The 6TCU was designed by Thompson Centerfire and basically a 223AI necked up to 6mm. This provides an additional +-100fps and also a clearly visible distinction in cartridge vs a .223.

You can find dies for both 6x45 and 6TCU. Good luck!

The guy that wrote an article about the 222 Rem necked to 6mm was Sam Fadala he built one for his wife. I believe it was on a small Sako.

I 2nd what swd posted!!! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I'm shooting 80grn Nosler Ballistic Tipped Bullets in a 10-twist barrel at 2998fps with 27.0grn of IMR 8208XBR powder. This rifle also shoots the Sierra #1515 Biltz and Hornady 75grn V-Max extremely well.

I played with a Remington 700 in 6x45, it was such a treat to shoot. I used H335 with Speer 70gr TNTs and 2200 with the 55gr ballistic tips and SHOTS bullets. It was easy to load for, no recoil really, higher velocity for same weight bullets over the 223.

I didn't really find any bullet that wasn't accurate in the rifle, but I mainly fed it 70gr TNTs and 80gr Remington PSP bullets I bought years ago for 7.50 a bag on top of H335.

I have had a handful of 6x45s, 6-223AI, 6tcu chambered rifles. They were always fun and effective on varmints and predators. Probably the best and easiest 223 based wildcats are 6mm.

Have a 6PPC and a couple 6ARCs now so I moved the 223 based 6mms down the road.

6TCU, a case full of 748 with a 60Sierra HP on top......bug holes. I shot a big Pa gobbler at what I guess was 400 yards or so with it, gobbler in the bottem of the scope, bullet did not expand, looked like you stuck a needle through him, just a tiny little blue mark on each side when I skinned hi. He ran about 50 yds and was dead. Neat cartridge.

this is a Zastava mini that has a 6x45 chambered barrel on it. Its a nice"walking around rifle built a couple years ago. Stock is English walnut with ebony tip and cap.shoots groups under 7/8" consistently. rifle also has a Kepplinger single set trigger20250326_103630.jpg
