6x45 AR?

I dummied up a round with one of the 105's and checked it in the barrel. It touches the rifling somewhere between 2.585"-2.590" COAL.

I plan to load the 105 RDF's at 2.560"-2.565" COAL.

Comparing the 85 grain Nosler Partitions(bullet length=0.950") loaded at 2.260"(Mag length) & 105 RDF's (bullet length=1.250").......I believe that I should have about the same available case/powder capacity.

I need it to go at least 2500-2600 fps.

I'll let you know how goes it.
Very interested in your results. I just ordered a set of dies and want to build a bolt gun using the 105g class bullets.

I hope I'm not being too ambitious hoping for at least 2500 fps out of a 20" tube. I'd really like to see this launch the 105 RDF out to 1000 yards. I'd like to use it in the CMP's new Tactical AR Long Range Class at Camp Perry.

I installed my 6x45 Barrel on a receiver today. Since I'll be single feeding this load & to make it easier for me to get my fat finger in there to shove the round into the chamber....I used one of the Aero Precision XL Uppers(Enlarged Ejection Port for Large Brass AR's like the 450 Bushmaster).

I took a little more time and checked the available COAL again with the Nosler 105 RDF. It looks like it is closer to 2.610" when it touches the rifling(not the 2.590" that I mentioned in the above post).

I'm using going to start with 22.0 Grains of the Shooters World Tactical & see how it goes. There appears to be plenty of room for more powder....this is no where near a compressed load.

I-8208 seems to be the best burn rate of all the bullet weights I've tried for this chambering. I couldn't get enough 4895 in the case to get acceptable velocity.

Lol the 2 powders I dont have.
I'll look at what I have in like burn speed.

Update:
Chrono'd the 105 RDF with 23.0 Grains Shooters World Tactical using Fed 205m @ 2.560" COAL= 2309 fps. It's not showing signs of PSI just yet and there's still plenty of room for more powder.....so time to add a little more and try again. I may end up having to go to a slightly slower powder....we'll see. Next load will be at COAL @ 2.600"(.010-.013" off the lands).

A long time ago I built a 6x45 on a Rem 600 that originally was a 223. I used the 223 for control work and when the barrel was toast it morphed into a 6x45 and continued on doing it's thing. Old now so I just use it for off season coyote and an occasional Egg Shoot. My goto bullet is the 55gr NBT either leaded or Lead Free depending on where I'm hunting. Awesome little cartridge but it is doing more safe time since I built a 20 Practical shooting 40gr NBT's

Still working up a load with the 105 Nosler RDF. I tested with more of the Shooters World Tactical and some of the Shooters World Match Powders. Barrel is 19.5" 1/8 Twist Hart. Outside Temperature was 70*F with BP=30.10 at near sea level.

Primers are FGGM 205M, in Winchester Brass. COAL= 2.600" (0.010"-0.013" off lands).

SW Tactical
24.5 grains = 2465 fps - Primer is starting to get flat (See pic on Right below).
25.0 grains = 2524 fps. - I believe this load is safe but getting Hot/close to max load with the SW Tactical (See bottom pic).

SW Match
25.0 grains = 2398 fps.
25.5 grains = 2447 fps.
26.0 grains = 2460 fps. - Primer looks good to me (See pic on Left below). Looks like about 95% case filled.

I think I'll stop with the Shooters World Tactical for now and focus on the Shooters World Match for a minute. I think there is room for a couple more grains of the SW Match (who knows maybe 3+ grains with a compressed load). I'm also thinking of trying the CCI 41 Primers (I recently came across a case of these).

I am now optimistic that I may be able to get at least 2600+ fps (hopefully more).

Did you just load looking for preasure?
I'm curious about the accuracy with the shooters world in this cartridge.

As of now I'm only loading a couple at each charge weight & I have not tried for accuracy just yet.

My goal/hope is to reach out to 1000 yards (using ShotMarker Targets). Ballistics Calculations I have run for the 105 RDF indicate that a muzzle velocity of >2500 fps may be what is needed.
Due to trying to push this heavy pill from such a small case....I'm going to have to see how fast I can safely get it to go and back down from that looking for a Node.

I realize this is not the load we're currently discussing....but we have been using Shooters World Tactical for our 80 grain SMK (.223 load in a 20" WOA 1/7 Tube) with great results. Launching them @ 2805 fps (still going approx. 1700 fps @ 600 yards with SD= 16.1). See pic below.

I should be able to provide Accuracy updates soon on the 6x45mm.

This coulda, shoulda....woulda been a 199-9x (in some tricky wind conditions) if not for shot #20 (an X) being placed on a neighboring target (Damn-It!!!! not again).

Definitely keep us updated.
I think the 6x45 is a versatile little cartridge that dosen't get the press it deserves.
I may drop the 10 twist I have for a 8 to shoot the heavies.

I built one a couple of years ago with a 9 twist. 68's will be my heavies. So far I have not needed the SB die I have for it. Excellent round.

Why I didn't thread it for a suppressor I'll never know.........

Lots of good info thanks!!! How were your groups?

Haven't shoot for groups just yet...been using a Magneto-Speed (hanging off the barrel) and trying to sneak up on the velocity that I'm looking for.......more to come soon.
It looks like the load for the 105 Nosler RDF in the 19.5" tube is going to be right around 27.3-27.6 Grains of Shooters World Match with the CCI 41 Primers. The 3 shot 100 yard groups were way under One MOA.

The 27.4 Grain Load went 2640, 2643 & 2642 fps and was closer to 1/2 MOA. I think it may be time to try this at a 600 yard Match.

The thing that I found really interesting was the difference in the Primers. The same powder charge with Federal 205M's was all over the place (2592, 2577 & 2607 fps). I typically have really great results with the Federal 205M's....but they clearly are not lighting off the SW Match good enough to completely burn the powder in this application. In our 80 grain SMK .223 loads the 205M regularly produces SD's in the single digits.
