17 Fireball

I always wanted a 17 Remington, but I could never find one.

So, I have a 17 Fireball 19.5" Deadshot AR barrel coming next Thursday.

I have all the components and reloading dies assembled! I even found a used Wilson Inline seating die for $20 on ebay!

18gr Dead Hammer = groundhogs
19gr Hammer Hunter = coyotes

Can you post a picture of the two bullets side by side?
The 18gr and 19gr are identical in length.

The only difference is the depth of the hollow point.

18gr Dead Blow has a deeper hollow point and is designed for varmints.

19gr Hammer Hunter has a shallower hollow point and is designed to retain 73% of it's weight.

Steve Davis, owner of Hammer Bullets, killed 2 impala with the 19gr Hunter bullets using a 17 Hornet at 3,600fps.

I'll be conducting high speed slow motion video gel shots with both bullets.

Quickloads is predicting 4,000fps using IMR8208 XBR.

Good video! Thanks. I've got a 17 Mach IV that soon I'm hoping to get shooting well, and that's cool you are shooing an AR version. Looks like it's working well.

I am experimenting with modding a Lancer 5 round magazine to get reliable feeding.

Gel shots video next Sunday!

Nice video, I've been on the fence between a DSB 17FB or a KAK 17-556. Did you order a matching bolt? What profile/gas configuration did you go with from DSB?

No, just a stock Odin Works bolt/big.

SOCOM, 0.750, Carbine

I have the magazine issue feeding just about figured out.

I use IMR 8208 in my 17 FB and 4000 fps is easy, heck 4300fps is easy…. Not that accurate though. 3650 fps is the sweet spot for 20gr Vmax and 20 gr Dogtown.

Interesting.... What twist rate did you get on your barrel? Using 450 or 7 1/2 primers? WD

Thanks for the information. Do you intend on installing a normal optic and testing the accuracy of the rifle?

I'm curious on your thought process between this and a 17-556, I haven't seen too many non-sponsored reviews (17-556) where people really get into the accuracy of the barrels.

I'm also curious how you checked the headspace or if you just ran it? This would be my first AR build.

I did install a daytime optic and did a little blurb at the end of the video.

I am not satisfied with the all copper bullets in terms of accuracy. One of my good friends in the shooting industry Dave Fricke who used to own Lehigh Defense, had a very sound theory on why it is very difficult to get the all copper Monolithic bullets to shoot accurately in the 17 calibers. In a nutshell, because the all copper bullets do not expand/seal in the bore like traditional lead core/copper jacketed bullets, any variances in the bore's internal dimensions will have adverse effects on accuracy.

A little tease, I did shoot the 25gr Berger bullets three days ago, and they shot fantastic (3 shots into 1/2") with the thermal scope surprisingly. That video will be released next Sunday.

No issues with the headspace, just a stock AR bcg/bolt.

Yeah, regarding the 17/556 KAK, I really had no interest in it.

Now, I am also building a Remington 700 clone in 17 Remington upcoming.
