SAVAGE Trigger

I had an opportunity to get one of Fred’s Evolution Triggers, but procrastinated until they were no longer available. Probably the best Savage Target Trigger ever made? You had to send Your action in to have it Timed and Trued with the trigger. I have one of His Sharp Shooter Supply Competition Triggers, which is the closest thing to a Jewel for a Savage. But, when Savage went with the Bottom Bolt Release, they would no longer work, so Fred stopped making them. A good trigger, but like before, they were all gone before I got any more :(
After I got my action back from Fred, I immediately sent a PTA in to have done, long story short he did all the work but did not have another trigger for it. Very disappointing because I had already reserved a trigger for it. Haven't used Fred for anything since.

I have both a Jard and Sav 2. Tried both and out of the box the Jard was better. I could not get rid of the creep in the Sav 2. I put it on another rifle (not a comp rifle) and it has gotten better with time. The Jard still breaks like glass. As said, the Jard is a complete replacement. With the Sav 2 you’re still stuck with the original sear. So if it was crap to start with, …..

Been following this thread from the beginning and tried to keep my opinion silent.

I shoot 2 different Savage rifles in a target league and hold my own against some very well crafted custom rifles. Some of my shortcomings may just be me as these folks have way many more years experience than I do.

I also normally follow the unbeaten path. Like this league, were it is being dominated by 6BR, BRA and Dashers I am shooting a 6ARC bolt gun.

Too the triggers, I am shooting both the Top Bolt Release and the Bottom Bolt Release versions. Both have factory Accutriggers. Both have had the springs replaced with the factory Target Springs. Both I have been able to turn down enough that they trip the safety by just a light touch of the trigger.

On the Bottom Release it uses a different sear than the Top Release. The Top Release Target rifle with the Red Blade also uses a different sear than the other two. It employs a different angle on the sear.

On my Bottom Release I have done nothing but replace the spring and also install the trigger shim kit. With the shim kit I was able to remove much of the side x side wobble out which once again allowed me to turn down the spring.

I have also shot custom rifles with competition triggers and found them much too sensitive for my liking.

I to, thought the same. I have tried the Rifle Basix twice now and didn't like. I was told the Jard is the ticket. I have two rifles being built now, one will have the Jard and the other the Accu-Trigger that has been worked. I will compare and decide which I prefer. I really don't want to put out the money on a B&A, but time will tell.

Do Savage’s show up anyway?
Yes Savage’s do show up, but it seems more and more rare And they seem to have less and less success. The competition in Long Range Bench Rest currently is showing the advantages of having absolute top shelf equipment, assembled by the best Rifle Smiths in the Country. Anyone starting out needs to realize this, but it’s not all about winning, the people are great and it’s a lot of FUN. I will still have at least one Savage at the match for a while.

I can agree with that even though I am still shooting a Savage for short, 300yd., matches and am building a second one. I am still in the learning curve that I don't believe I can shoot the difference between my Savage and a top custom. Maybe one day, but for now the Savage allows me to purchase more components and hone my skills.

I haven't tried a Jard but run an Elftman and I love it. Great trigger. My Sav was a Model 11 top bolt release and pre-accutrigger.

Nothing wrong with that. And, You have the joy of doing Your Own work. Makes any little victory that much sweeter !!

I get razzed every start of the season. Last winter I beat at one time or another all 3 of the top finishers. And they are all shooting custom competition rifles.
And they were likely orders of magnitude more expensive too. Many don't have the deep pockets to afford a custom competition rifle, I sure don't.
