MDT vs. Boyd Stocks For Savage 110 Action

I have a Savage 110 Storm XP in .223 that has served me well, but am looking to convert to more of a range rifle ( chassis or adjustable stock, bull or varmint barrel ). Have not done this before, so curious as to pluses and minuses of the aftermarket stocks. Thanks in advance for any help, ideas, suggestions.

I have a Choate stock for my wife's Savage 110 FP.
With the 24" heavy varmint barrel it puts the weight right at 14lbs.

Otherwise I've been working with the factory Tupperware stocks.

Devcon for bedding the action.
Light weight Bondo in the forestock for stiffness.

Just a thought, but if it was me I would purchase a different rifle model. Buy the BVSS model of savage and go have fun. Nothing wrong with converting your current rifle but you will eventually end up with more money tied into that you would have if you had just purchased a new rifle.

I've owned 2 of the BVSS models and they are fantastic shooters for a factory rifle.

Makes sense, I just wanted to use what I already have, not accumulate another gun, and not go through the hassle of selling the one I have. At 77, I’m of a mind to start downsizing if anything!

But sooner or later you will end up converting your new rifle . So just do it to your first rifle and be done with it , and you well NOT have the price of a new gun spent . I did some converting to my first rifle and now my Savage shoots like this . At 100 yds .

Boyds are a little on the heavy side but not drastically. I've used several and they aren't always 100% drop in but usually 99.5%. I don't think I've ever spent more than 15-20 minutes removing a little proud wood to get them to fit. I do usually bed the action though. Great stocks for the money.

I used to have one of those for my savage, eventually chassis makers made more savage options and I got one.
I definitely prefer the chassis to most cheaper stocks, the more expensive stocks can actually give a chassis a good challenge.

If you disregard the ptg bolt sleeve and rifle basix trigger lol
I have read that the PT&G Bolt sleeve hurts accuracy , And everyone changes their trigger. And I did my own chambering & gunsmithing and don't even know how to run a lathe .

It's all about the serial number. Everything else is just lipstick.
All my customs are on chassis stocks. I call them my LEGO rifles,
and shoot bench rest match's with em'......All my builds have been
on MDT's since that company started., and most everything else
stock wise, I have been machining in house......Avatar is me doing
v-block blanks. and one of my custom 3" drop rider's. Also an
original first make MDT HS-3 with one of my bipod spigot's based
on a Savage PTA. Woodchucks hate this thing......
