MDT vs. Boyd Stocks For Savage 110 Action

Boyds are pretty plain Jane appearance and will need pillars and bedding to optimize accuracy, and bottom metal if you run a mag. Chassis contain an aluminum bedding block and are mag ready, plus the adjustability. MDT and KRG are functional, economic options. Nice wood (not Boyds) for targets and a Chassis otherwise for me.

But the action has never been trued up it is bone stock . the action has never been reamed or threads re-cut like they do to Remington actions . The thing is why not do this to your first gun . You sell your gun and buy another HOPEING it will shoot better , but they NEVER do . You sell your first for less than you paid for it and buy another gun and it don't shoot any better than the first gun . Even if you buy a custom Action a good gun smith will want to true it up before putting a new barrel on it and his name on your gun .
I hate to break it to you but truing a Savage is not going to make a bit of difference

Is that so. Elaborate please.
Waste of time = what little, if any, benefit derived from the time invested into a savage action will not improve your groups. Especially with that horrific bolt lift.

Waste of money = what little, if any, benefit derived from the money invested into a savage action will not improve your groups.

What is worth it is, either investing in a custom action to begin with, or use that money to invest in components or wind flags to practice more

My action is stock ,but have done a lot of work and changing to other parts . And it will shoot like this . ,And at a registered Match with a different caliber I shot this 3 shots at a inch , total group 2.778 inches at 600 yds and with a 24 power scope .. Yes I have shoot with other guys that have $4ooo in their gun that don't shoot any better .

Years back, could have been in Precision Shooting or on this forum, I don't remember, some accuracy type guys had checked several Savage actions for trueness - etc. They found that those Savage actions needed no work, that they were like a blueprinted (or whatever you'd care to call it) action. They needed nothing done to them, no machining.

I have a Savage 110 Storm XP in .223 that has served me well, but am looking to convert to more of a range rifle ( chassis or adjustable stock, bull or varmint barrel ). Have not done this before, so curious as to pluses and minuses of the aftermarket stocks. Thanks in advance for any help, ideas, suggestions.
If I had to get an MDT stock, it would be the XRS. I don't know how much experience you have with a chassis rifle, but personally, I'm not a fan. I like the feel of a rifle stock better. Of the two choices you mentioned, I would probably go with a Boyd's Pro Varmint. Another good option that is not mentioned, is Bell and Carlson. Their Target/Competition stock is nice.

Maybe I got the only one, but the bolt lift on my 110 is far from “horrific “. Is the entire action as smooth as that in my Tikka? No, but at least with mine it ain’t far behind.
