Cleaning patches for 20 caliber?

I just finished up cleaning my 204. I have two different brands of patches the Lyman seems to be pretty loose in the bore and the other won't even go into the bore. Just wondering what brand of patches you guys like the best in your 20 caliber guns?

For .22 and .20's, I've found that the Pro Shot cotton 1-1/8" patches on a dedicated for-caliber spear-point jag works perfectly.

I buy them in packages of 1,000 pcs, works great for both bore sizes with one size patch for both.

In my experience, it depends more on the jag than the patch selected within reason.

I use Pro-Shot patches which are cotton flannel which I consider a must. As for size, I use Dewey jags, and it is quite easy and simple to size the jag to a patch for a given caliber to obtain an optimum fit. For me, an optimum fit is a firm fitting patch that will contact inside the grooves of the bore.

I usually buy 3 inch patches in bulk and cut all calibers as well!

3 inch patches work well at the end of cleaning too dry out the chamber wrapped around a bigger brush.

I have used 22 caliber patches if you spike them off center they will go down a 20 caliber bore with ease!
That's what I usually do too. But, I can't even get the patch down the barrel with my cut ones. Maybe I need a different jag.

Matt get one of those rolling fabric cutters.
Measure the thickness of your patches on hand. Thread count and “fluff” of the cotton flannel can and does vary a fair bit.
I buy .17 cal patches as they are a pita to cut.
I do as others mentioned on my 20’s, use a 17 jag and a 22 patch.

Cut your own with some sharp scissors or
adjust the dia. of your cleaning tip jag for a perfect fit.
I have a couple different dia. .224 jags for different patches

I have been dealing with this problem since the 204 R hit the market. And it happens to all sizes of patches.

Very simply this is what happens. The Brand name on the package does not make the patches. The seller goes on the world market and buys the cheapest patches that are available and puts their name on them.

The thread count and thread thickness can be all over the place. Usually thinner than what was used previously and so cheaper. You have to "adjust" the size to fit the caliber for each bag of patches you get unless you buy thousands and then they will likely all be the same.

However, a couple years later when you are out of that particular patch and you order the exact same patch from the same supplier, they may be different.

I have some patches from about 15 years ago that will not fit in a 20 cal barrel no matter how hard you force them. I have the same size patch from the same supplier and the same sku numbers, bought a year ago and they slide in a 20 cal barrel just fine.
