Thoughts on 3 groove barrels

Hello, I am working out the details for doing a 30 BR build and I came across Hart barrels
They offer a three groove 1/17 twist
I don’t believe I have ever heard of a three groove barrel
I would like to hear your thoughts or experiences on a three groove barrel,

TY John

There has been many great 3 groove Lilja barrels in the IBS score game. I know of one that has won a yardage at a national event and a 25x.

I have several Lilja three grooves on hunting rifles all solid performers. I have a hart 3 groove on a 6ppc panda that gave me a 6th place finish in a 100 yard agg at the super shoot. Just imagine my face checking the results at the end of the agg and seeing my name two ahead of Tony Boyer. I would say just try it, you may get a real good one. Good luck with your build.

I used a bunch of Lilja 3 groove .30's on HBR and VFS guns. In fact, my IBS Hunter Class National Championship win was with a 3 groove Lilja. twisted 1:17. :) I also have Lilja 3 grooves on a 22BR and two in 6BR. All shoot killer good.

A slightly younger version with the IBS hardware and a Lilja 17 three groove.

You've been here since late 2014 and haven't read about 3-groove barrels? Read more...

We, as shooters, are blessed to have a large number of great barrel makers in this country alone. It's difficult now to choose which one to order from unless you have particular scruples or the price point is in your range.

It's not just the number of grooves which can make a difference but the other multitude of nuances that go into making top tier barrels.

Take some time to actually study what each maker creates and sells to us.

Remember, it can be the Indian instead of the arrow...;)

Same as above. I have noticed that some smiths don’t like chambering odd-numbered groove barrels. From what little I know, they’re more difficult to get the bore indicated true zero. Dunno really.

You were just a child! Lol!

I've had and seen some really good 3 groove bbls over the years. Especially several 30's but I've only seen a few 3 grooves of other calibers, that I can remember. PacNor made some really good 3 groove 30's too.
