Over the years I have learned to put things in order of importance with the biggest influencers of accuracy at the top and the least at the bottom, working on things in that order. Lacking the funds or to do exhaustive testing of all of the variables I find that determining what the winners are using and doing to be a useful technique. In any case, it is pretty common to see someone get so focused on one of the less important details and completely overlook or intentionally not deal with something that is demonstrably more important.
Back when tuners were new, I could have immersed myself in them but I was at a stage where I could easily see that my performance reading wind flags and staying in perfect tune as conditions changed were a lot more important and tended to let smaller things get lost in the wind as it were.
These days a friend who has a lot more resources than I had a quarter century ago is really profiting from his work with tuners. He has the means to do his own work and choose between several top grade barrels for competition. He also shoots over flags a lot, which tends to reduce those mistakes considerably.
