Pennies will be History......

yeah, I’m aware of all that……lol. My comment was more because there are those who would like to do away with all forms of cash and move to digital currency only. That is not something I like, although like you I make most of my purchases online with a credit card.
I'm not ready to move on yet either.

There's a time and place for various forms of currency transfer. I've tried paying for a new car purchase with a credit card twice now to get the miles, and both times it was a flat NO. It was within the card limit.

Compared to most government moves I have seen, making pennies look to be pretty prosperous.
Cotton top gets the Bonus points. Losing 26 million stamping out pennies. Seems like a great government make work project. They Waste, lose, n steal billions more. And. This is Huge, The Lobbyists get paid more to Solicit more money from the FOOLS we Elect to serve the needs of The People. Those delightful grants, loans, GIVAWAYS... Gentlemen, We The People. Have Been Poorly Served these past 70 years. I need to rest. mike in ct damit.

Lost somewhere in this discussion is the cost of printing paper currency as opposed to stamping coins.

Paper currency is much easier to duplicate. Hence all the steps to identify forgery.

Paper currency does not withstand handling nearly as well as coins.

Do denominations such as pennies, nickles, dimes and perhaps even quarters even make sense anymore, irregardless of production costs?

I think that's the question that needs answering.

Given the current value of the dollar?

We've reached the point where fractions of a dollar are more a source of inconvenience or irritation than relevance, IMO.

Those "Briefers" The un-Elected Unics, we pay plenty of money to those incompetent fools to push us around, the Builders, the Do-ers Taxpayers.. Yeah, they don't care much for us simple folks. We didn't elect those in goverment to push us around. System is not functioning as intended. All we can do is complain. Really not much we can do. it Sucs. mike out.

Probably didn’t want to get hit by the 3% fee on the transaction.

ETA If it was a cash back card, that would have been nice….

So my dad wanted a new truck--found the one he wanted, negotiated the deal--then brought out a bag full of cash to pay them--They would NOT accept the cash, He told them to #$%& off and walked out. They called later that day begged him to come back and buy the truck--Finally he took them a bank check but the bank gave him a hard time about the cash as well- he told them call the cops--I will play your silly game---you have to think what a shame --The man was doing it right--worked Hard, saved the loot--went to get what he wanted and was treated like a crook. Our best days are well behind us in this country
So....Cash ain't the King you think it is either--we are screwed

I use cash back cards and pay the monthly balance in full every month to avoid interest fees.
I think it's absurd, but I didn't create this. I'm responding to it.
Money back for spending money.

Huh.

But it only works if you pay your full bill on or before the due date.

I hope the government hasn't been making pennies to make money, the govevernments job is to provide services, stability and security.
Governments job is to. . Federal, state, county or city/town. Is to ensure an environment we can be safe n secure. Free, to find our own ways. Feds are to provide first class military, to not be squandered. Fedral police forces CIA other alphabet agency's. Costs are off the chain, crazy high prices/taxes. Sorry men, I'm seeing a really expensive, slow to respond/uncaring, unproductive, ungrateful work force ..The Mail Person today, ripped open my Wifes Birthday Card. Perfect ending. Who concurs? Thumbs up. We losers just keep picking up the bills. These are nearly confiscatory huge tax bills , Yes in deed EE. We Donkey Forward pulling this partially Edumacted societal wagon. Somehow, we managed these past 70 years. We struggled to this place, we find ourselves in. I'm glad Im here with you all. Amen brothers. Mike in Ct, Damit. expensive, n cold up here. Sheet.

USPS has been a slow-motion train wreck for a long time now.
I'm not sure what comes next. I'm only sure the current situation there is unsustainable.

I'm not ready to give up on the concept of nickels, dimes and quarters yet.

That piece of brass that sells for $1.25 would then cost $2.00 each and that gallon of $2.18 gas would be $3.00. I don't think the price would be rounded down.

You're already paying for a cashless society. You just haven't realized it yet.
I was there not long ago. Not criticizing. I don't like it either but it's not in my power to change it.

You were also paying for a hard currency society as well and never realized that, either.

The Government doesn't work for free.

Taxes.

So now we're all bearing the costs of both systems.

Getting hit with the fee is probably correct. I didn't expect for them to take the card either time, but my wife like to travel and we get miles, and i'll ask next time too..

I know the miles is not the greatest investment, but it's something, and we get lots of miles. So, everything possible goes on the card.

I'm not sure why you say we're a cashless society?

I know there are a number of place I use only cash. I may be old fashioned, but I don't pay for anything using my phone. I will on my computer, but not my phone. I agree that less is done with cash now, but those armored trucks still travel with a lot of cash going somewhere.
