I should’ve mentioned. I will never shoot past 300, most of my spots I can’t even shoot that far if I wanted to, so long range is not really a consideration for me.
Make the most?I won a custom bolt action rifle, and I intend to make it a dedicated coyote rifle
There’s a whole slew of 6mm cartridges I’m interested in but have no direct experience with any of them. Whatever I end up going with will also be my first cartridge that I handload exclusively for.
I read about guys pushing the 62 grain varmint grenade around 3700+ and rarely getting exits. That’s the kind of performance I’m after.
6x47, 6arc, 6XC, 6creed, 243….
Let’s hear your input. I’m probably overthinking this, but I will likely never get a free rifle again so I want to make the most of the opportunity.
I this the case, and fur is no concerne anything will work, but I will never own a heavy for caliber varmint rig again, I like speed, and 6x47 Lapua for a new to custom rifle builder, in my opinion is better than the 257 for short range.I should’ve mentioned. I will never shoot past 300, most of my spots I can’t even shoot that far if I wanted to, so long range is not really a consideration for me.
For sure it is hard to go past the plain vanilla 6BR... good brass availability, good bullet selection and dead easy to get a performance load. The bullet you choose is way way more important than how fast it’s traveling, where terminal performance and fur damage are concerns. Therefore, whatever cartridge you like will be fine.
All that being said….
I’ve tried them all, except a 6XC, and a 6BR with a 68-70 stands alone for a calling rig as far as I’m concerned.
I’ve got a .050 13.5 twist, a .104 10 twist, and 8 and 12 twist BRAs….. all set up for hunting stuff from Varmint to mule deer. For sure it is hard to go past the plain vanilla 6BR... good brass availability, good bullet selection and dead easy to get a performance load.
I have campaigned the 103's from 100-1,000*= though not on coyotes at 1,000, just too far to be ethical... only out to 500-600.
There is a reason that this little cartridge it is so popular.... It just plain shoots anything from 65's to 1o7's ...!
8 twist with the above .104 free bore would be a good all around.6gt is what I’m having built. Not I need to choose bullet/twist
I have friend shooting a 6GT in F Open and he is getting terrific results with the 110gr Sierras with Varget.6gt is what I’m having built. Not I need to choose bullet/twist
FINALLY.........one hurdle has been overcome.......Praise the Lord!!!6gt is what I’m having built. Not I need to choose bullet/twist
