New Rifle

Did the factory have any explanation on the condition of the gun? Now that they have gone to the extreme to fix this rifle might be a good time to name the maker, would be good for all of us to know who stands behind their products like this.

I have a youngster I'm mentoring with reloading. Very sharp kid. Only 16 year old i ever met that has his own vegetable garder!!!
His folks bought him a new 6.5 PRC rifle. Upper end brand. Like probably a $2000.00 rifle. He brought it to the house to show off of course. Anyway. I asked him if he had cleaned it yet. Kind of through him off with it being new and all.
I was blown away at what we got out of that barrel. Anybody besides me think this might not be a new rifle. I've never experienced this before.
Honestly that looks pretty normal for a lot of the AR barrel I get

I would imagine that they would send a new rifle if not for the 4473 form already in his or his father's name. But it seems that they are replacing just about everything else. Glad this young man is getting his rifle taken care of. Whoever did this needs to have to pay for it.

When you used to send in a S&W back in the day that had issues from the factory, the smith that fixed it would many times slick up the trigger and put the super tune on it as kind of a way of saying I am sorry. I helped a neighbor buy a chief's special that had been sent back and it got the treatment and it was slick as glass and had a very nice trigger. I hope this young man gets a rifle back that is way better than a new one, he deserves it.

Sure looks that way. IMHO that’s WAY too fouled for a few QC shots at the factory.
Nonsense. One shot through a fresh barrel on many of my rifles takes waaaay more to clean. I had one Krieger that at a whole bottle of solvent to break in (but only 15 shots total).

Fresh, rebarreled rifles from my gunsmith take longer to clean after one shot. I’ve gone through a hundred patches cleaning after the first shot. New barrels are a friggin copper mine.
I wonder why the mfg agreed to replace the barrel and the bolt then? FTR I'm not challenging you, I haven't run into that problem, however some barrels clean easier than others.

I have no clue why the mfr replaced the barrel. But I’ve also never had a barrel that didn’t look like an epic disaster (on patches) after one shot.

Interesting. 10 rounds through mine certainly seems to deposit more carbon than one round does. But….you know what they say. “ Every barrel’s different. “

It is going to be interesting to see where break-in and load development will take us from here. I'm curious to say the least. My thoughts are that the manufacturer was concerned with the pics yall saw of the patches we ran through it. The boot exchange really has me curious. I'm waiting to get started when the gun comes back in

The first shot, especially if the barrel is dry, is always a disaster. I clean after that shot. 2 patches of accelerator, 3 of patchout, wait about 30 min and brush it hard and it’s clean after a couple of wets. No need for 100 patches or a bottle of solvent, but I do whole heartedly agree that one shot on a fresh barrel is as bad as the next 25 rounds.

I really had to put some muscle into my new BRA after one shot. I cleaned it in 10 minutes after 15, and I really didn’t get much at all out of it after 50. A little carbon. I’ve always had a superstition that the worse that first shot fouls, the better the barrel will be. This one is shooting .220-.230 and I haven’t done a speck of load development, so once again it’s holding true.

I’ve got a seating depth test loaded up and I’ll get on the powder after that, but it’s been a real winner other than that first shot.

Did they give you an ETA of the rifle? Do you have all you need to load for it? If you have needs let me look and see if I can find components to help you.
