And the life for a 6.5 PRC barrel would be??????Test fired at the factory - a couple of hundred times.
I don't think anybody noticed this post. Is it out of the ordinary the chamber got cut this deep? On another note, I used a 140 grain Hornady ELDM to measure to the lands. The overall length on said bullet was 2.99. SAAMI show max OAL at 2.755. The stock magazine won't take that bullet if we have to crowd the lands at all. I haven't checked the shoulders on the case yet. I'm hoping its not a mile in.On a side note, I showed Grant how to measure the chamber for overall case length for that particular rifle. SAAMI specs show 6.5 PRC max case length at 2.03. That chamber measured 2.07. Seamed a little sloppy is what went through my mind. Can someone enlighten me on allowable variation?
Wouldn't that just mean you would need to seat the bullet deeper? The overall length on said bullet was 2.99. SAAMI show max OAL at 2.755
Huh. It's a shame you weren't able to borescope it before you started working on it.This rifle has never been fired by the owner. Brand new rifle.
looks like a lot of copper in that barrelI have a youngster I'm mentoring with reloading. Very sharp kid. Only 16 year old i ever met that has his own vegetable garder!!!
His folks bought him a new 6.5 PRC rifle. Upper end brand. Like probably a $2000.00 rifle. He brought it to the house to show off of course. Anyway. I asked him if he had cleaned it yet. Kind of through him off with it being new and all.
I was blown away at what we got out of that barrel. Anybody besides me think this might not be a new rifle. I've never experienced this before.
My NEW Tikka's ( Bought from, EuroOptic, Cabela's and 2 from, Sportsmans ) were Test Fired then,.. GREASED Up with, something Like,.. Rusty Cosmoline from, the Factory,.. YUP,.. ALL, 4 of, Them !I have had very dirty barrels in new rifles in the past. sometimes it is cosmoline or some other rust preventative. Sometimes it seems it was test fired and not cleaned after. Just recently an Uberti High Wall in 45 Colt was filthy and presumably was new.
Test fire how many times?Clean the Pisszz Out of It and Test shoot, some Group's,.. BEFORE,.. "Worrying", over It.
Some, Custom Rifles ARE, Proof Test Fired then, 3 or 5 Shot Group's, are shot.
Some Custom Rifles made in, Boise, Idaho ARE Test Shot at, 1,000 Yards, before ever, going Out, the Door !
And for $5- $6,000. a Pop,.. they AIN'T gonna Clean them, either !
My Tikka's Barrels, looked,.. pretty UGLY too !Test fire how many times?
I've seen cheap factory rifles fired for deer season and sight- in over a 20 year span that weren't ever cleaned with anything but patches soaked with WD-40 that didn't look any worse than the OP's pics.
That's a hot mess.
I'd bet if a borescope was run down that bore it looks like an interstate in a heavily traveled section of the upper Mid-West where salt is used heavily and the frost just came out of the ground in March.
Potholes.
I understand. I also understand that unless that bore is far worse than most $400 Savage Rifles, there's no way it'll peel off that much copper in 2,3,4 rounds.@ DShort,..
NEW, Un-Lapped, Factory Barrels Have, Sharp edges, on the Rifling, a sharp Edge at, the Throat's edge from, the Reamer cutting the chamber, and Sometimes even "Chatter Marks", in the Bore,.. ALL those "edges" & Pockets,..
Can easily Accumulate / Hold,... LOTS of, "COPPER" !
I'm of the same opinion. I will also admit to only having done load development and break in for 2 to 3 dozen rifles out of the box new. That's why I came on here. Having not seen it before through me a curve .I understand. I also understand that unless that bore is far worse than most $400 Savage Rifles, there's no way it'll peel off that much copper in 2,3,4 rounds.
A $2K rifle shouldn't do that IMO.I'm of the same opinion. I will also admit to only having done load development and break in for 2 to 3 dozen rifles out of the box new. That's why I came on here. Having not seen it before through me a curve .
See my post #36I understand. I also understand that unless that bore is far worse than most $400 Savage Rifles, there's no way it'll peel off that much copper in 2,3,4 rounds.
I base my opinions off personal experience. If I have an experience that causes me to change my opinion, then I will.
Until then, I shall wait for the OP to post borescope images.
