New Rifle

I actually emailed manufacturer today about test firing. They said every rifle gets 2 to 3 shots through it. They were relatively prompt with responding.
That IS, a lot of copper "Fouling" for, Less than,.. 5 Shots ! ( FOR SURE ! ) I re-Looked at, Post One.
Did you Ask IF, they Put some sort of, Rust preventative, Cosmoline Grease, in the barrel after, the Test firing ?
I've used up, 6 to 8 Patches, with Tight Fitting Jag's / bronze Brushes and Barnes B-10 solvent, getting my Tikka's Clean, when New.
But, I don't clean them "real Perfect" either because, I know that, I'm going to Shoot them, again, real soon.
Good Luck and keep Us posted on, the outcome, plus the Accuracy that, the Rifle produces

This thread inspired me to buy a bore scope. I have a .22 Remington 581 it was an amazing shooter that isn't shooting well anymore. I have a feeling the bore scope is going to reveal the issue.

Thanks OP, and hopefully the young man's situation gets resolved.

The manufacturer is a great company from everything I have read and heard. Thats why i havvent named them on here. It appears they are living up to that reputation.
Get your seat belt and crash helmet on when you buy a borescope. I agree with using one but good Lord that thing wore me out when I first bought it.

Thanks for the warning!! I have a feeling the bore scope and my occasional OCD bouts could be problematic. I might be posting some pictures here, to help aid me in learning and hopefully stop me from driving myself crazy with it. ;)

You will not find a better source of good info than this website!!
Archerforkids:

You are truly GODS GIFT since you want to help kids, like Grant, to learn about the aspects of of the shooting World!!! Don't let this get you down or DRIVE YOU CRAZY!!! That copper fouling looks more like gawling!!! That rifle could have been tested using oversized bullet proof loads (Post 36)!!! Or, a lot of shots fired through that gun meaning it was used!!! If used, to what extent??? It could have been a return after shooting one 20 round box and the original owner not liking the heavy recoil of of the 6.5PRC!! I know, breaking in a 6.5PRC without the muzzle brake (to allow for cleaning procedure) is quite painful!!! The rifle is stall like new in that instance!! Lessons learned by Grant and his father!!! Until that rifle is sighted in and tested on the target, no one will ever know the truth about that rifle being used or NIB!!! And chambers can very a lot in mass produced rifles!!! I have seen the difference between the same model rifles and made one year apart!! Reamers wear, and are resharpened a few times!! Production machine set-ups very too!!! Quality standards also change in time!!!

And yes, old eyes have a harder time of seeing fine print!!!

And, I'm going to speak for all forum member and say: THANK YOU FOR HELPING THE KIDS!! LESSONS LEARNED, ARE LESSONS EARNED, NO MATTER IF IT'S GOOD OR BAD!! And my God Bless You SIR!!!!!!!!!!

That's probably a kinder response than I deserve, but I do thank you.
I have to admit my selfishness. I hope these youngsters remember me when I cant get around any more. At least be willing to drive me to the gun range!! :)
Thank again.

They will remember you!!! And, they will take you to the range because they will want your expertise and knowledge!!!! Just stay close to them and keep coaching!!

All of them were new factory rifles, Ruger, Savage, & Browning.
Perhaps we're misunderstanding one another. Given what is on the patches in the first post and what is still visible with the borescope afterwards, I believe that's excessive. Appears to be really peeling the copper off the bullet in one area in particular.
