Scotch Brite pads - o/s neck cleaning

Anyone used them ?

I'm interested in Using them to clean the outside of case necks.

What I can't seem Find out is the relative thickness and flexibility of them if They will work for my intended application.

I even called the company and they dont know How thick their own product is.

Any helps appreciated.

Never done it though I would say this should work. Not sure how you would do this, or why the thickness is a factor. The scotch bright will compact & or wear considerably in a rather quick fashion.

I get mine from a buddy who runs a body shop. The ones that I use are a dark gray color. There are also red ones but they are a bit coarser. The dark gray ones do a nice job and don't leave a lot of residue on the case.
The color of the pad indicates the coarseness of the pad.
The common green ones are hard enough to scratch glass or a chrome finish…
I have found some very fine ones at a wood working store that are the equivalent to 000 steel wool that don’t leave scratching on the brass and won’t leave any iron particles that will eventually cause rust; rather important on a fine wood finish… The same being applicable to your brass, chamber and bore.

The light grey works well for this application, but you need to get from an auto body/paint supplier or Amazon.

its a body shop tool just like sand paper.
3m Scotch Brite pads are of differing coarseness. Caution. May polish the brass right off. Grey is a milder grit. Red or a dark maroon color is a more course grit.

3M ScotchBrite pads
Grey or Gris is # 64935
Maroon is # 64936

There is a white 3M cleaning pad that should be the lightest for grits. I don't have the 3M # but they are on Amazon. For Brass I would use the most mild grit.

John Holliger recommended not using ScotchBrite pads on AR Bolt tails as he felt they could diminish the OD of the tail, these pads can remove material so go light grit and test on junk brass.

3M brands are all over the marketplace, even Amazon if you decide to try.

Come on by I am sure there are barely used pads laying around the shop with a lot of life in them. LOL

There is a member who manufactures/sells a case prep tool that uses ScotchBrite pads. It consists of a hollow case body that can attaches to a drill, and a screw cap lid that has an opening to fit on cap with opening to fit the case neck inside. He cuts out mini-doughnut shaped circles out of ScotchBrite pads, which are then stacked inside the case body. The tool is well made.

Buy a can of Eagle One Nevr-Dull wadding. It will last a lifetime. No abrasives. If I'm shooting from a bench, I keep a pinch of it next to me to clean the necks as I go. Easy-peasy.

Tries this but I do not like the film it leaves in the cases.

There are varying grits. I have and have used them all for various purposes. Using a little common sense and only apply enough pressure to clean the carbon off the necks and any of the scotchbrite pads work fine.

My last choice is the 0000 steel wool pads because they break down and leave steel debris.

Honestly, pack of baby wipes (unscented) on the bench while casually shooting. Takes all of 2-3 seconds spinning the spent case neck to just about wipe off everything.

ScotchBrite pad for small batch of brass. Otherwise, vibrating tumbler with rice for larger batch of brass.
