What's your favorite way to dial in a barrel?

I don't like the idea of predrilling for myself because, the drill has to be held in a chuck by the tailstock
which the tailstock is always a little high (Mine is .003" high) and is never on centerline
so the drill bit will flex, or possibly want to wander
If you want to pre bore then you drill. In that instance when you drill you do not care if it is not centered because that is why you bore ;)

Ok, I hear ya
and yes I am using my reamer as the drill bit.
so then how much does it cost for the special boring bar that is small enough to fit but wont flex and cause any chatter?
compared to the cost of a new finish reamer?
-------------------
Considering the finish reamer is doing everything needed, ...........repeatedly without dulling or chipping.
---------------------
Again, not arguing and not trying to beat a dead horse or vote on my method vs yours
What I'm trying to gather is, I am open to learning more...
How will my chambers come out any "Better" by adding in these extra steps

30 bucks maybe?
What?
I thought guys were using like a $250 custom solid carbide boring bar for that.
Which is why I was like "Whatever I'll just buy another reamer if need be"
I have an 8mm small boring bar but I wouldnt think it would bore chamber depth without flexing
Ok then, I will investigate this more
Thanks man

Awesome, thats the ticket.
I was thinking some Kennametal Nasa thing.
Speaking of which, I saw a Kennemetal "Chamber Reamer" on ebay
it was pricey like $400
But never knew Kennametal was into making of all things ....chamber reamers?
Anybody else seen or used one of theirs?

I'm a 'cave man'. I just chamber for my own uses and I'll never wear out enough barrels to need a new reamer.

So I let the reamer do all the work and I don't worry about it.

Just me bein' me.

I know it's your personal property to do what you want with including using it as an end mill if you want but
thats just not allowed

I seen some kennametal boring bars for a swiss lathe a few days ago, OMG, awesome yes but I'm sure pricey

The kennametal reamers are new. They were announced at shot show this year. Surprised to see them on ebay so soon.

I posted up my 1/4" Circle Machine carbide that used to be had for a good price (bar free with purchase of 10 inserts) but is now ~$250. Aaron posted up an import Circle clone for much less. Not sure what thread it was in.

Copy that,
One more "QUALITY" reamer company would be nice to help possibly reduce wait times
Kennametal makes nice tooling, so I'm sure their reamers would be gems

Yes it might have been your post where I got that price from, I remember the posting
Good info but $26 is more to my liking if it performs the same... lol

I saw that too, The guy selling it didn't list whether or not it's carbide or HSS, At that price I wasn't going to waste his time asking, The pilots looked goofy too, No thanks.

Yeah that reamer was way too pricey for just a .308
------------------------------------------------------------
As for the pilot, I have one carbide reamer with a spiraled pilot
I imagine the reason is: being useful for using with a flush system
otherwise no need

Those that Aaron listed above are specialized and best for small chambers like a PPC.
A 1/4"/6mm indexable carbide shank tool would likely serve you better for larger cartridges. Also shown are polished inserts for aluminum that work great on steel. I think this is more what Aaron was referencing he'd used in the past. @LVLAaron comments?
