Do you pull up on the top stem to give enough room to put another bullet in?

Yes, I do. I have been to lazy to design/ print and lever like the Sinclair gauge uses.

Everybody is fixated on dial indicators and fancy stands.

Just a simple piece of aluminum faced true on both ends with what ever desired hole you want with a slight bevel in conjunction with a set of dial calipers is as simple, and accurate as you can get, especially at the range.


Granted, it doesn’t look as cool on the loading bench.

That's kinda sorta how I started out (see OP). I was looking for something faster and less fiddley.
