So Cal Fires!!!

I wonder how many of those folks, now loosing everything, voted for Newsom. Newsom is the one that stopped most of the prison fire crews that could really aid in these fires in the state. Plus his cutting back on funds for fire control. Now a lot of people are paying the price and more than likely will find their fire insurance rates going up, when they rebuild or not being able to find fire insurance, with companies backing out ? I feel sorry for the working people in those areas, not so much for the VIP's.

I'm starting to hear side stories now about looting and arson.

From the vids I saw on the tube, I'm frankly amazed that the death toll isn't WWAAAYY worse. jd
Don’t know if it’s still the case, but my understanding is that for the longest time California has either sharply restricted or outright banned prescribed burns. Maybe someone knows for sure. IF that’s the case, then fires like they suffer in California are a question of “ when “, not “ if “.

I watched a pod cast with Joe Rogan a couple years ago, his guest was warning of the potential for large scale fires due to the drought if the winds combined to make the perfect storm, unfortunately his guest was right.
That's odd, because CA got nearly twice their average rainfall the last two winters. Recall devastating floods and mudslides, big Sierra snowpacks.

I was just getting ready to post the very same question. Periodic burns would remove much of the fuel that these fires feed on. But no, the forestry managers and other state agencies won't allow prescribed burns for whatever stupid assed reason.

Many of the mudslides are due to prior fires which denuded the soil. Some fires basically kill the soil so nothing will grow. If nothing will grow there's nothing to absorb the rainfall other than the soil or slow its' runoff leading to the slides. No roots to hold the soil together. Vicious circle

I’m sure you can look that pod cast up, it was 2-3 years ago and his guest explained the potential wildfire hazard, he pretty much explained what we are seeing now. It’s too bad nobody listened or maybe there wasn’t much that could be done about it anyways. I thought it was interesting though.

And I saw a news real the mayor of LA skipped town and wet on a trip, I think out of the country, the reporter asking her if she thought it was a good time to leave her city and take a trip. Lots of LA firefighters calling in saying they are at home because they don't have trucks for them. They are saying there is like 80 something trucks that have been down for many many months because they took funding from the fire department and allocated to other places. I saw footage of a yard with that had over 60 rigs red tagged in a Matinance yard. Many many firefighters confirming this. They have been telling the mayor and other officials this was going to happen. Also lots of fire hydrants and other utilities have been out of service for a long time. The mayor just stood there and wouldn't answer. This is unacceptable.

At some point the fire fighters can't do much. The chopper drops the water but it gets evaporated in the air or the wind pushes it away, power lines are down so the city water pumps can't pump any water.
However, most of it could have been avoided if the forest and vegetation management is done properly.

NewSCUM being the snake that he is, works really well with the numbnuts tree huggers. 3- 4 years ago, In my neck of the woods we had fires that came right up the canyon walls and destroyed homes. Again, if the brush management and forest management would have been done, then the fire doesn't have any fuel.

I don't understand why these people don't understand this concept. Wait, they do understand the concept, they get paid too well under the table to care for the state's citizen. I am sure the brush and trees are very well managed for their neighborhoods.

City water systems are not designed to fight wild fires. Period! Their system had the compacity to handle several five alarm fires at the same time. I was the super responsible for the water system of a plant that stretched out over 10 miles. Our capacity was 2.5 million gallons and our tanks were at the top of 500' hills just like out there. I have been picking out bits and pieces about the mechanical operation from the various news stations. There were a lot of things that went wrong early on that no one had plans for.

Allot of the insurance companies cancelled insurance/cover for fires shortly before the fires because of the lack of maintenance/upkeep from the government so they are getting nothing back form insurance

Of course they know. Prescribed and controlled burns are an elementary aspect of forest and land management. Not only is it a critical element of destructive wildfire control but also the benefits for wildlife are almost incalculable.

This is an urban version of what we ve also done with logging, spotted owl protection, etc and why we have such large fires in our forests every year.

When the vocal minority, special interest groups start running things then that s when problems begin; no common sense and/or don’t give a damn about anything except their agenda s ……

My Hopes and Prayers for all theses poor souls.

Millions of $$$$ to build water resistors ! Not one Built.
The sad thing not sure any of the People Vote in, Know or care one bit.
Please make me Wrong.

This is F'd !!
So folks are to keep homeowners insurance as per thier contracts with lendors, yet the insurance companies have the right to cancel policies because they precieve a catastrophe thus leaving folks uninsured and left to thier own means to rebuild.
Legalized organized crime if you ask me.
