Who's got a new truck ?

Exactly my train of thought, I bought this 2019 a couple weeks ago with 57K on the clock.

Blew my wad on new tires & wheels too:

My '18 Denali has 59k on it and now needs an oil pump.

Anywho, Merry Christmas

I bought a new Honda Ridgeline recently....it's my third one. For me, they're a good mix of all I need for hauling building materials, rifle gear to tournaments, etc. The trunk in the bed is really useful. It rides like an Acura.

Was thinking about trading my Ram in for a new one but now I'm hearing about head gasket issues on the Hurricane 6. Anybody else hear anything?

Recently picked up an '18 Silverado LT ZR1. Yeah, those heated seats are nice. For anyone looking to buy new, this is the month to do it.

My 2022 Ram 2500 Cummins is making oil.....fuel contamination getting into the crankcase. Just drew another oil sample and sent it on Saturday to the Cummins/Fleetguard lab for analysis. It has just a touch over 5K miles on the current oil change.

I'm seriously considering trading it for a 2025 GMC 2500 or 3500....but I don't know if those new GMCs are more reliable or not??

GMC. Got a Mechanic Coming.

The irony is that I went this way because my 2011 F-150 ate it's timing chain at ~70k costing me almost $5,000 in having the heads rebuilt. So, you know pushrod V8 sounds nice after all that. This isn't a promising start.

I wish I'd have just kept my Ford. Or bought a 3/4 ton that doesn't have all the fancy engine tricks to make CAFE standards.

I keep kicking this around in my head. I would most likely go Chevy/Gmc. If I suffered a traumatic brain injury that impaired my mental faculties even more, maybe, jus maybe Dodge/Ram...

Dodge and Ram is now like saying Ford and Chev. Rams are Fiat's. I have had many Dodge/Cummins late 80's -2007.5 and if you dont mind broken plastics and paint that looks like eucalyptus bark then they will roll forever if you keep fluids fresh, esp the trans and especially dont overheat it.
I am rv'ing right now with 2014 170k mile Ram 1/2 ton diesel and camp trailer. A guy ( auto dealer) pulled into slot next to me with a 2022 1/2 ton chev diesel and we got to comparing. The Chev diesel was some euro engine out of a delivery truck where the truck cab tilts forward to access the engine. SO the engine in the Chev was backwards! To do any work to it need to drop engine and slide it reawards. Also he had 40k on his truck and burned a quart of oil every 1000 miles. Normal.
My Italian 3L diesel has never missed a lick and zero oil burn. But I will have to admit it has been stripped of all emissions and with engone and trans tune since new.

If I had to do it again, for a tow rig, I would find a cherry 07 GM 2500 with the 8.1L Vortec and call it good. Best v8 workhorse ever built. 12 mpg empty or pulling a 5'er. Gas is cheaper than diesel so comparative mpg towing would be like 15mpg, or whatever, to diesel. Repairs/maintenance/problems is a fraction of new diesels.

I wouldn't buy anything car/truck newer than 2019 with all the bs after that.

Unless you’ve spent 30 years in the auto business I have to respectfully disagree with your assessment. I can assure you that the profit margin of a new Ram truck is +/-2% from what it was when they launched the second generation Ram (code name BR) in 1994. If you want to get into the specifics of why a new truck today costs more than a truck you bought in 1994, I’d be happy to do that with you, but I hate to bore the others on this form.

Merry Christmas
Dave
any info on econ of truck purchases is welcome here. I bought one new pickup in my life. the rest have been real nice used. Best truck I ever had was an F150, 97-03 model. I cant remember what year it was. It was a tank. Currently have an 08 Dodge 1500 w hemi engine. I drive like my age. Pretty solid vehicle. Ride is rough as can be bc of old style suspension.

My 2015 Tundra 5.7 SR5 Crew Max got an average 15MPG in overall driving. Best I ever saw it do was 16.4MPG on highway. I ran that one 80K without a wrench ever needed. I put a set of tires on at 52K and a battery in 2019. Usual oil change about every 5K.
That truck I sold for within $5K of what I paid new and bought the 2021 Tundra 5.7 Limited Crew Max. It has averaged 16.2 in overall driving and have seen it do over 18 MPH on highway several times. Highest MPG so far was 19.6. It too has been flawless for its first 39K miles.
I bought the 2021 because I didn't want anything to do with a turbo V-6 of the 2023 and later. I may have proven myself somewhat intelligent as many of the V6 engines have sh#t the bed with a rather major internal issue (which I see Toyota has stepped up to the plate and making whole).

I bought a 2020 Ford Ranger Limited ($62K) - now have 90K miles on it. I use it mostly for traveling longer distances (not around town). My wife won't ride in her new KIA car when we are going somewhere - the truck is her preferred cushion. Lots of power (twin turbos), love the two 120 volt outlets in the cabin so I can work while she drives), and did I mention the ride? - well, it is the most comfortable vehicle I have ever owned in my 65 years of owning vehicles. It is a bugger to park at Walmart - but all 4-door trucks are big and hard to park these days.

20 mph. Oil changes and tire rotations only - no other maintenance whatsoever. Excellent vehicle. Have loaned my truck to two other people to use for the day. Both bought the same truck (well, one 2022 and one 2023)

The Expedition are a really good ride like that now too.

I've tried to buy used in the past but, they are normally not much cheaper and the loans on new trucks are better.
I went into the bank about halfway through my loan to refinance and, when they did the loan to value comp, my truck bluebooked for only just about 2k less than I paid.

The price of used trucks, at least where I live, is crazy.
