imr4166 went bad

I cracked her and gave her a whiff. All clear. But I’ll definitely be checking it every now and then after reading these threads.

I had great results with 4166 in several rifles. It was at the top of my favorites and when hpc dropped it, I dropped hpc powders . Got rid of all of them. I kept one brand and am very happy with it. Had some imr-4320 do that yrs ago

Was looking to why this powder was discontinued. I believe the strongest answer was simply that the propellants were not popular along with difficulty's in MFG process. Well who is the biggest consumer out there?
Military application would be correct. Why would the military find the 4166 & other Enduron propellants less popular; To the point of discontinued MFG across the board? I fear we are looking at the root cause of the discontinued use.

I have a few pounds I feel I should be using this up sooner, rather than later. Do not know of any similar issues with other Enduron propellants being shared as of yet.

I read Euro reloading forums that the European Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) bans as well as several governments equivalent of the EPA have banned chemicals used in the processing and/or remain in the finished product. If a powder is banned in Europe due to REACH, you can't even ship ammo containing that powder through countries that signed on to it.
Many Hodgdon distributed powders are now banned in Europe and the Brits aren't liking it one bit.

When powders were hard to get I switched to the Enduron powders as they were available and one of the newer lines, figured they would be around for a long time. I loved 4166 and 4451, shot them with great results in multiple rifles. Lots of time and money spent working up new loads. Then they dropped them and all the Hodgdon prices have gone through the roof. VV and Win. has my business now as H4198 and 4895 are also nonexistent.
