Savage 110 LA

This savage is the first center fire I ever got. My dad bought it for me when I turned a señor in high school. The rifle was originally a .243 and has killed a lot of coyotes and one deer. I burned out two barrels with this action and right now I just have the action and the stock. I never knew this action was weird until I decided to upgrade the stock to wood several years ago.
The savage 110 is a long action with a short action blind mag which I thought was weird. I'm thinking of finding a gunsmith who could cut out the action to a long action blind mag. The long action blind mag ends are the same as the short action mag ends. Who would you suggest could do this for me? I don't mind the wait and I do want it done right. I'm located in Las Cruces, NM

If you can see here the stock is already cut out for the long action blind mag.

I see that now.
Funny, I have a half dozen Savage rifles and never noticed that before
I will agree with your unspoken thought. It looks like a pipe wrench was used. I bet it could be cleaned up.
To the OP: Just my opinion: I would buy a new 243 barrel, put the gun together and look for another gun or action. Older 110s are available and would save you a few headaches.
2 minutes on Gunbroker and I found this nice old 110. A little searching or looking thru some pawn shops might get you one cheap.
I bought an old 110 in 223, years ago. I was going to change it, but I shot it first. It shot so well, I left it as is.IMG_1091.png

Talked to several gunsmiths and other shooters and the consensus is what you guy suggested. I just wanted another savage long action and I just don't like the limitations of a short action. The scratched marking you see on the action is from me taking off the bedding compound I did years ago. I didn't apply enough releasing agent, and from what I remember, I think I almost broke the wood stock. I had to drill tiny little holes between the stock and action.
