Savage internal mag question

I am considering building a .223AI on a long action Savage with a blind mag due to OAL with the 75 A-Maxs. I know most of the Savage long actions are going to be set up for 308 type of cartridges. Will the 223 be able to feed from these internal mags, or will the feed lips be too far apart to hold the case in the mag well? Other option is setting up a short action chambered in 224AR (from 6mmAR.com). Again, I'm not sure how this will feed. Obvisously it works out of an AR, so......
Thanks,
Mitch

Long action Savage mags are set up for the 06 family of cartridges.

223 through 308 are still built on a short action.

In terms of length, a 222 Magnum AI with 80 gr AMax's measure a touch over 2.6xx". A long 308 round, that still fits in a factory Savage 308 mag box, measures over 2.9xx".

The follower will need tweeked and the feed lips on the mag box to feed the 223 AI.

I am shooting an older Savage short action in .223. I don't know if the older models had a shorter internal mag well, but at 2.406" OAL the mag is more than useless.

What model is stamped on your barrel? 10/11/12 or 110/111/112?

They did make 223's/etc on long actions, but only opened up the well to fit short action.

Have you thought about buying a 243/308 magbox for your action?

The rifle now wears a Shilen, so no barrel marks. I'll have to take the stock off and get some actual measurments of the mag well. I didn't think of putting a 243 box in there. Ideally I would love to have a DBM set up from CDI. Anyone have any info about the 224AR feeding out of this setup? I would get pretty much the same performance as the 223AI, but in a shorter package.
