Need help making decision on bullet choice first time 30br

I got a 17tw keiger. And need some advice on which bullet to buy . Id plan on getting 500. And stick with them til I find tune. Im thinking a 112g. But I see 115, and 118s. So I find myself asking which bullet for 17tw.? 30br.

I have had excellent results with Bib and Barts 112s or 118s. My rifle likes both equally well. Bergers have also done well for me for club matches.

Try them all and let your rifle tell you what it likes.

Tim
That's the plan, hoping to buy one time. I know thats not the case most the time.

What if you had one bullet Choice in the 17tw. What would it be? For 30br.
Im guessing there really isn't much difference in bullet choice between 17 or 18 twist barrels.

Actually can have a number of differences. Bullet ogive and jacket length being the most apparent.
Not too long ago I was looking to put together a 30br so I reached out and called Randy at Bib bullets. He was very generous with his time and sharing of knowledge to point me in the right direction on bullet selection. Whatever chamber/reamer specs you have will help. I suggest you grab a pen and a pad of paper to take notes and give him a call, you won’t regret it. I’ve never spoke with Bart but have only heard good things and I’m sure he would have some insight to share also.

Didn't think about that.
I'll give it a try.

Myself and the majority of our club members shoot the 112 BIB for club matches. The 118 BIB’S and Ammermans shoot good, just not quite as good as the 112s. 115 Bergers are accurate too.

Just my opinion, but the only reason you would shoot a bullet any heavier than a 112 in Varmint for Score is you enjoy more recoil.

Get some 112’s. BIB and Barts are excellent. set Up a good Chronograph and put what ever amount of N130 or LT-30 it takes to get around 3020 to 3050 fps. That will be around 35.0 to 35.5 of either.
Somewhere in there you will find a good load. Then work on seating depth.

For some reason, seating depth is very critical in these short 30’s. Once you hit the sweet spot, you will know it because all of the bullets will want to go in the same hole. And, once you find a seating depth it likes, carve it in stone and avoid changing it unless you see the Four Horseman of The Apocalypse coming over the Burm.

That's what I wanted to hear. That's a definite answer. 112s it is. Thanks Jackie

Is there a noticeable difference in recoil between 112gr & 115gr??

As mentioned above the 112, 115, 118 gr. all work well with the 1 - 17 & 1 - 18 Tw. barrels. Bibs & Barts are both very accurate once you find the magic numbers to play with. And normally it don't take much looking to find those. Berger 115 gr. even though not a custom bullet will shoot lights out as well.
