The 22xc Thread

Initial test shows some promise. Will be loading new test loads today. This target is the break-in bullets with IMR-4064. The flyer on right was a sight in shot. The hole has a dozen bullets thru it. The 3 under are likely shooter error.

Those are the Tubb abrasive bullets?

Tested today with N-140, N-540, N-150, N-550, and Reloder 15.5 with Berger 60 gr Varmint. N-140 shot best and was most consistent. ES of 22 or less and impacts never wandered no matter the charge weight. Groups ran from .072 to .5 with N-140. The rifle liked everything with no group of any loads went over .7. I hit speeds as high as 3800+ but everything over 3700 showed some level of pressure. Groundhog and yotes beware!! Time to clean it

That will work. :)

How do your speeds and charge weights compare between R15.5 and n140?

N-140 max 3672
Reloder 15.5 3754
Might have been able to get a bit more out of 15.5.
With n-140 the various charge weights hit same point of impact across a 1 gr charge spread. Impressive barrel Brad, thanks. I couldn't make it shoot bad. I'll stretch it out to 300 for some testing leter this work or next.

I meant to say what was the charge weights compared to one another at the same speeds? I would think that they would be very close.

Thank you for the kind words my friend. I'm glad you like it.

Different cartridge, same ballistics, 60g Berger at 3700 fps, I shot a bobcat in half around 120 yards, he would not kill any more fawns. The 60g V max at 3700 should open a coyote like a can opener!

60g Bergers will be tougher than a 60g V Max, and my concern on the 60g V max would be distortion of the base of the bullet during obturation due to rotational torque. If a 60g V max would be my intended bullet for predators, then I would run a 12 twist. Speed is a killer on coyotes, permanent wound cavities. We also shot 12T on the 60g Bergers, and with 3.5-10X leupold AO's, we shot 1/2" groups at 200 yards, 37g of Win 760 in the 22/250 AI..

60g Sierras proved to be too tough for coyotes, remarkably accurate however.

If they ever come available again, the 62g Speer Gold dot with bonded cores would be a fantastic choice for deer and hogs.

The 22 XC is more efficient than the 22/250 AI, slightly.

In a straight neck down, I would not want the bullet shank/boat tail to go below the shoulder/ neck junction for the win, and I bet that Bradley has that issue addressed on his reamer.

If there is a down side to the 22 XC, I can not find it after dealing with several 6 XC's as they are pretty idiot proof to tune.

Sorry Brad, Been busy. Father passed etc. RL-15.5 and N-140 are very close in the 22xc.
38.6 gr RL15.5 gave 3635
38.7 gr N-140 gave 3672

Took first groundhog with it yesterday. Blew a fist sized hole in him and he never even twitched

I'm very sorry to hear about your father passing. That is a difficult season indeed, that we all have to face at some point. Losing someone we love. Much love to you.

Thank you so much for sharing your data. I think the 22xc has proven to really be a wonderful cartridge. Now, everyone call Tubb and tell him to stock the 22xc brass. :)

Hey everyone, I'm threading mine back on for coyote season. 62gr eld vt should be flying here soon. I may want another barrel just for testing haha

Do it!!!!

Do it!!!

I'm thinking I'm going to do the same thing. We have been so busy getting ready for the wedding. But I still have my awesome 22xc 8 twist in my Red Elisio. I would really love to throw some r15.5 in that sucker and pump up the speed for when we go to Colorado in November.

I will soon. You will be the first to know, what powder would you suggest other than r15.5 ?
