They Register Motor Vehicles -- Why Not Guns??

Anyone can BUY a car (no background check), but it must be registered and the driver licensed to DRIVE it legally. OP makes a good point, most cars used in crimes are stolen! No license, registration or insurance.

Don't you realize that 99% of Bank robberies were committed using CARS as tools of the trade? Amazingly, an even higher statistic can be seen if we look at terrorist car bombings!

Cars are the tools of terrorists and bank robbers!

We have to do something.....!

I have not heard ONE politician, not one Sheriff, not one Chief of Police, not one police officer individually or though their professional organizations, come out and say the obvious:

Every free man SHOULD carry his side arm with him where ever he goes! If YOU see a mad man killing, wounding, maiming, innocent people, put him down!

The Government is NOT your Daddy! Policemen can't walk around with you all day holding a Kevlar umbrella over your head!

You are responsible for your own safety and security! Nobody else is responsible for you!

. If an effective solution for preventing the mass shootings isn't found
You’re not telling me that no one has a solution to the violence that occurs from time to time. I sure don’t have it, but with all the brilliant minds in the world today I bet someone has it. If the solution has been presented it has been and will continue to be buried……quietly and quickly. Problem is, it doesn’t fit the narrative or goal of disarmament.

A well regulated Militia being necessary for security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed.

It's plain English, the only thing to be regulated is the Militia. What that means is a command structure in the Militia, that's what regulated means.

What's not to be infringed?
The right of the people to keep and bear Arms.

The only solution to violence is the elimination of humans.

Bcuz 2A... "shall not be infringed"...

Because registration only punishes the innocent. Criminals never register their firearms. It's useless and it's unconstitutional.
THIS!

There is no Constitutional Right to 'Keep and Operate Transportation Modes.
Which is why all the testing, licensing, insurance and registration is in place that STILL does not prevent unsafe operations and crimes.

You guys better be damn careful what you ask for. You just might get it.

You have bought into it also. Using that logic the second amendment would go away. Same could be argued for the first amendment. Someone has to teach you to speak. If you are only taken care of and never spoken to you will not learn to speak on your own.

If you want please make your case.

Driving is a right that has been regulated into a privilege.
Wrong. The Second Amendment specifically addresses the possession of firearms by US CITIZENS.
No such Amendment exists for modes/methods of transport.

I just wish people on this thread would carefully read the OP's first post. All the way to the end.

If we would just read for understanding, we wouldn't have these kinds of misunderstandings.

CLEARLY JD is NOT advocating for gun registration. Sheesh.

My reply to this necro-thread.

So, I started getting "alerts" regarding this thread that I had apparently started, and when I saw the name of the thread it didn't ring a bell. I must be getting the dementia. :( THEN -- I see that it was something I banged out five freakin years ago, probably about when they started ramping up for the next election in 2020. (does it ever stop?)

My post was a long one, and I think a lot of folks didn't read down to my final point which was that gun registration and regulations will not deter criminal gun use anymore than they deter criminal motor vehicle use.

"If this registration process doesn't work for a 4000 pound motor vehicle, what makes anyone suppose that it might work for a three pound pistol, or a six pound rifle that will fit under any hoody."
