Diving into a 22 Creedmoor

nonsense have had 7 twist barrels and no ill effect whatsoever
prefer that over a 8 twist

Well, you must be shooting some thick jackets because you're way deep into terminal RPM. All you have to do is ask the people who make the bullets. They'll tell you the same thing. So I guess it's not nonsense.

If it wasn’t so expensive a risk, I’d love to compare the two Twist rates side by side. I’ve had 95’s not show up on target, but no one runs paper targets anymore, so it’s hard to say if it’s just an etarget failure.

I wanted to post an update, and this 22 Creedmoor thread seemed a good one.
Prone match yesterday here in Phoenix. 95SSMK over 40g of N165 set to 2.860 COAL. Petersen 22 CM brass (SRP, new). Kreiger 7twist barrel with 700 rounds.
The 7 off left was a sighter, and I called the high 9. Otherwise, that’s a 16 shot group at 500 yards. I didn’t adjust elevation as I wanted to see how it grouped. And I only adjusted windage from the first wide right 10
I'm not up to speed on targets any more. How big is the X ring on that 500 yd target, and what do you think your shot cadence was? I'm thinking about a 22CM for prairie dogs at some point, but I've always worried that the barrel would get way too hot way too quick.

The X ring is 5”. The 10 rig is 10”. I fired 22 total shots in about 12 minutes. The barrel was really hot, but it’s Phoenix, so everything is really hot. We shoot 4 rapid fire strings every match and the barrel still shoots little groups.

can't always believe what you read
It’s all just rumors until you pay $450 for a barrel, and $450 to chamber it, and then at 300 rounds it starts blowing up every 3rd or 4th bullet. All of a sudden, you’re taking all those experienced suggestions about 7-twist barrels more seriously. I got that lesson the hard way. Not every barrel will do it, but even just getting one barrel that does it is too many. It’s not worth the risk. A 7.5, 7.7, and 8 twist all work when going 3000+fps. The other path is a 0.219 bore instead of the traditional 0.218, although I haven’t tried that yet.

the only bullets I have ever had not make it to the target was from a 220 Swift
with the 7 twist I had never had 1 not make it to the target not saying it can't happen but to say it's the fault of a certain twist rate is misleading and wrong
I was at one point considering a 1-6 for my barrel but settled on the 1-7
but all the best to ya
