What's the chance

So I'm still a bit of brass goblin still. Can't help it when I go to the range it's like free pennies and quarters on the ground lol. Got few buckets worth of assorted range brass at the house. Anyhow something annoying I noticed is people will leave all sorts of trash on the range from targets to diapers, but they will toss their brass in the trash ,well usually just the nice expensive stuff like .300wsm , Lapua what have you ect.... Been thinking of going and chaining some buckets with slit lids to the pillars of the lil shooting area with a sign that says something like " brass disposal" . What do y'all think the chance is people would actually toss their brass in them ? Have a strong feeling they the would use them for trash instead of the actual trash cans a whole 5' away

Some people will some people won't. If it's anything like the range I go-to... You would end up with some brass, some cigarette butts, empty cartridge boxes and leaves. That's even with a full sized trash can next to the brass bucket. (Trash can will also have brass that some dummy threw away instead of using the brass bucket)

But then you also would probably have some other brass goblin pilfer the brass from the bucket too.

Where you live there is a very good chance that most of the bucket will be brass. Down this way I am thinking everything would be in the brass bucket, I have made my piece with that, at least its not on the ground. I think if you made it look professional maybe they would think it was a range bucket, and not mess with it so bad.

The range I shoot at has plastic garbage cans labelled "Recycling" and "Trash". Recycle bins have a hole cut in the cover with lettering around the hole reading "Plastic and Aluminum only". The actual trash cans have large sign that read "Do Not Place Cartridges or Cases in the Trash" (as the disposal service considers it HazMat.)

The number of people that read and follow the directions on the cans is pretty close to zero percent.

Why would you bring a baby still in diapers to the range? They are too young to shoot and the noise is going to hurt their ears.

Range has been quiet lately, last brass I found on the ground was 30/30. Reloaded it for a buddy who had shoulder surgery and had me reload his brass for less recoil. Now he has 50+ mild recoil 150 gr deer loads that shot very well during load testing.

I go to a private range where you police your brass and either keep it or throw it in a barrel. Works well and the owner sells it for scrap. Not a lot of money but it helps. If I see someone with brass I want, they are happy to give it to me. Needless to say, it is a tight ship run by exmilitary and LE.

Our Izaak Walton club 300 yd rifle range has two 5 gallon plastic buckets on the roof support columns and one 5 gallon bucket at the 50 yard pistol range for brass. The club does not collect or save the brass. Members are allowed to scavenge it. Find some great brass in the buckets at times. Have not found any trash in the bucket since they were installed in the late 80's ( there are plastic 55 gal barrels at the same columns as the brass buckets for trash ).

Years ago,I proposed collecting the brass in a reasonably pilfer proof collection box Hilti Bolted to the firing line slabs and selling it for scrap or bagging popular cartridges and selling it to members. No takers on this idea. I offered to fab a couple suitable collection boxes at no charge but the idea died when it came to someone collecting and transporting the brass to one of the local scrap yards.

...boy must be nice not to have experienced the wonders of trashy people in an outdoor sport... Think that's bad should see some of the stuff doing on at the state parks popular fishing holes

Are you planning on providing TP? Some will most likely take a dump in the bucket.

A car guy on a forum I frequent has some of our friends we invited in from Brazil next to him in a rural area living in tents and have a portable toilet. They were doing some shooting a few days ago. He went out to his garage a couple of days later and his classic car had a few bullet holes in it. Also several more in his garage and a couple in his house. He called the law, 3 days later no one showed yet? Elections have consequences. So does listening to mainstream news....all is good ...it's going to get worse, much worse....COMING TO YOUR TOWN....
